Does anyone know of a good - free consultation, Financial Advisor? I am in bad need of rolling over a 401K.... I know nothing about this stuff (hence the reason of being in "bad need"), so I have put it off way too long and seriously need some good advice on all my options. I don't mind paying for service of course, but I don't want to start getting robbed right off the bat either, if I can help it! LOL Any advice on advice.... would be greatly appreciated!! Thx

Don't know of anyone per say, but rolling a 401K is "relatively simple" and you should not have to pay someone to do the actual transaction. If it's advise on what to invest in, they may charge for their time. I rolled my 401 from an old job to a Traditional IRA, then another roll to ROTH IRA (better investment vehicle, but you pay penalty when rolling into ROTH). http://www.rothira.com/traditional-ira-vs-roth-ira

Bow, I don't have anyone specifically I would advise you to speak to. That said, you shouldn't have to pay regardless. You could seek counsel from an advisor at any number of firms such as Fidelity or Edward Jones. If they assist you in rolling the 401 through their firm, they get paid in the end but you don't pay up front and they have to explain all the fees up front. My wife and I use a young lady from Edward Jones, but she is located just outside of Chicago. Most firms will end up giving you very close to the same advise and have many of the same investment options, in my opinion. But, all that said, I don't have a specific individual that I would direct you to. Good luck.

Being a Dave Ramsey fan, I went with a local ELP (Endorsed Local Provider). http://www.daveramsey.com/home/ Click ELP if interested. Good experience with them. Of course we follow Dave's steps and it fit right in w/ what we were doing. I am a big fan of the Roth and control. Good luck and get it done one way or the other.

Here is mine and he will treat you right!
william.d.robertson@ampf.com
Tell him Joe Bacon referred you, I don't get anything from this. He has my wifes old account as well as my son's and is awaiting mine soon as I retire.
He is conservative based and will spend time with you, even AFTER he has your account. We asked for quarterly meetings with him, he has never missed a meeting. I had a question on my account today(again not with him) he gave an opinion in less than 10 minutes via email!
BoBow, I am going to challenge you to ask one question of who ever you choose. "Would I be better to roll the 401k to a Roth and pay the tax today?" Don't know the amount you have or your age but............. it could mean THOUSANDS of tax free dollars to you at retirement.
Question is......... do you think taxes will go down in the future?
It wouldn't pay me, I'm 61. My son is 36 and it paid big time for him to move from 401 to a Roth! he did it 1/2 last year and 1/2 this year. Spread out taxes. It meant a potential of hundreds of thousands tax free money to him in next 30 years........
When science meets tradition there will be sparks.....
