Nearly 300 white-tailed deer tested positive for chronic wasting disease on an Iowa deer farm, the most infected animals ever found inside a farmer's pens.

Another shameful thought the 917,000 paid out By the USDA could have been 917,000 acres CRP payment for wildlife benefit here in SE Indiana at 100.00 per acre Thank you IWF and all others for the fight to keep this out of Indiana

If things were right, the USDA should sue him for $917,000 for keeping and promoting a diseased animal species.

There is nothing sacred anymore and in Indiana, with the legislative system and those involved, money can buy you anything. There is little, or in many cases no, respect for the natural resources of the state and be there no mistake that politics is often for sale. This isn't simply about deer preserves but in so much of society anymore. You wonder what some political folks see staring at them when they stare in the mirror in the morning. And, sadly, you wonder how you can condemn a poacher or someone else who breaks game laws when it is seemingly so apparent that much of Indiana's political system could care less, are willing to risk our natural resources or believe the everything is for sale. There are few watershed moments in regard to wildlife laws but moreso those moments of losing the battle brick by brick, but this is a watershed moment, the moment when someone in future years will look back and ask who and why was this allowed and who foolishly cost the State of Indiana money to reimburse deer "farmers" when the disease destroys both the industry, the natural resource and the tourist industry that evolves from out of state hunters. I'd call it sad, but it's not, It's pathetic.

I'm not happy about it, but I can't say I'm surprised by how this is playing out.

Deer hunting drives the hunting industry and our collective obsession with big antlers and our never ending willingness to spend huge money in that pursuit, can turn things that many of us find unsettling into something quite acceptable for others.

Those wanting to legalize and regulating deer hunting behind fences aren't giving up - http://t.co/2uYwisIeQi
