Lots going on - high power rifles introduced, change in musky size, new regs on catfish, and much more:

P.S. Note that the meeting is in the evening at Turkey Run State Park.

If you get the chance please show up at the NRC meeting on Tuesday and voice your opinion on the new catfish regulations.

Some liked the canned hunting versus canned fishing analogy. I did not. Your numbers didn't jive with the DNR numbers so I don't know what to make of that. Eliminate the emotion from the presentation. The NRC goes on science. That's where you win. The DNR proposal should go through easily unless the commercial guys show up looking for a fight. That's why it's important for folks to support the DNR proposal.

Our numbers came from post made by Pay lake owners posting to get business the Dnr No,s stopped at 2012 I think. ours were from this year mostly from FB post that could be where that comes from. We have talked to the NRC last year in Anderson So they have already heard from us Thats why the Problem is so Bad this PL thing is growing and expanding just that fast These guys CF are hammering the rivers now and with the fish starting to move to the winter pools they are really effective and Know that Dec 1st the Partys over KY regs take place then on unlimited harvest of big fish and their No.s were from Flesh markets

Strangely hardly anyone showed up to comment on the proposed rules. One lady from HSUS upset about dogs running rabbits in an enclosure and me.

http://www.in.gov/nrc/2354.htm

1.Agenda item #6 passed preliminarily. Only one I cared about was the requirement for bird preserves to have NPIP certificate when importing birds from out-of-state. This included the dog running of rabbits in enclosures.

2.Agenda item #7 passed preliminarily with one significant change. The catfish proposal was withdrawn. I have no idea why. Big one for me was suspension of ruffed grouse season and center fire rifles. I objected to using center fire rifles in Indiana and stressed that grouse are only an indicator species of our loss of habitat across the state.

3. Agenda item #8 - citizen petitions. Baiting of deer, extension of fall turkey, spring squirrel season, extension of quail season south of US 50, and exemption for brain damaged people from having a fishing license were all denied. The only one brought forward was the petition to allow center fire rifles.

4. Other tidbits - Hoosier Outdoor Experience again at Ft. Harrison this month. Eagle Marsh experienced a 1000 year rain event closely followed by a 100 year rain event. Still working on getting the carp barrier beefed up. Summer study meets tomorrow to discuss trails. Lots of retirements from the agency.

thanks Jack. I must say that it seems like the most important was probably the catfish rule which probably fell to political pressure. Its only time until baiting is allowed for deer but this gives something for them to approve in the next year or two.

If these idiots allow baiting I'll quit deer hunting...

I think it could be argued Jeff that allowing such does not put the resource at risk in any significant way and we seem to be headed in a direction that unless an action puts the resource at risk in a way that cannot be managed otherwise, then the action will be/should be allowed.

Baiting is for lazy AZZES...period !! I get sick of all the stupid commercials and advertising...dump it and they will come.. BS !...all these clown boys want now a days is lets make it easy...cross guns..easier for those that dont have the skill to shoot a vertical bow...center fire rifles for those too incompetent to kill a deer with existing weapons.... I hunted both Texas and Michigan for years and not once did a bait pile come into play and yet I killed deer, how ?...by working my azz off scouting, woodmanship, and spending time in stands....Last year there wasnt any foodplots to speak of, this year no food plots and yet I'll kill deer...I hope to god it dosnt come down to it...I really do....

some could argue the wheels on your compound are for people too lazy to develop the skill to shoot a trad bow.

just because its out there, doesnt mean you have to use it.

I get sick of all the whining about what ones neighbors hunt with, or what buck they kill....

+1.....on the equipment. If you don't like it, don't use it.

Point 2....

While I'm not a fan of baiting deer, there are those who say that food plots are bait and I kinda see their point (and yes, I've planted food plots).

Point 3.....

What technology should be allowed? What equipment? How long should each portion of the season last? When should it start? Where is the line drawn? Who decides?

It's no wonder hunters argue so much.....

I believe the next step will be public input on the proposal.

yup. Not sure when exactly and in this case there may be more than one meeting but public hearing is the next step. Notification of the various steps in the process will show up on this page:

Ordered my rifle on Tuesday. Should have it tomorrow or Monday. If it doesn't pass I'll have another coyote rifle. If it does pass I have a new deer rifle before the rush on orders and the price jump.

I'm not sure what calibers they had. It was the store in Clarksville.

OK thanks, I got my hands on both guns. Both are nice

I do like the adjustable trigger on the american. I don't think one could go wrong with either one though.
