Well , I took a page out of H.H.'s book, and rigged my auger to work with a cordless drill. I didn't buy an adapter, but any things possible with a cutting wheel and welder. I will never drill a hole in the ice by hand, again.

Yaz,

I bought mine from a friend who bought 2, one fit a 3/8 chuck and the other 1/2 chuck. My 18v Ryobi drill is 3/8 chuck. I paid half what these sell for. I have a Mora with threaded end and the adapter comes with a hole for Lazer or thread for Mora augers. You need an 18V minimum with high/low switch. You have to auger on low or the blades dance around and wont cut, learned that by accident the other day. The aluminum disc keeps the auger from dropping through the hole. Best dang invention to come along since gas powdered augers. h.h.

I have no doubt that they work well, but how many holes can you get out of a battery? I would think it would wear one down pretty quick cutting 10" of ice.

With a full charge Lithium Ion battery I can cut around 15 -18 holes in the ice we have now which is about 2 ft thick. I have two batteries. Some guys use a power converter in their trucks to keep spare batteries charged. Cold weather will rob battery power. I think Milwaukee makes an industrial battery drill that has special batteries for cold weather use.

I tried to post pics in my earlier post, without having to follow a link, no luck. Here is a link to the "Cornfed Engineered" version. I cut the handle off, inserted a 1/2" steel rod, and welded it to the auger end. The steel rod fits perfect in my drill. I can still use the manual handle by putting a drift pin perpendicular to the auger, but I don't think I ever will! My son and I punched 7 holes in 10.5" of ice without breaking a sweat.

Thanks HH and Cornfed. Either I have never used a GOOD ice auger, or these new cordless drill have more torque than they used to.

18V or more 1/2" chuck drills are recommended because they have more torque than 3/8 chuck drills. The 18V Ryobi 3/8 chuck I got seems to work good. h.h.
