Hey H.H. - does this rig look familiar? I bought this off the guy that ran the bait shop up by Pretty Lake. I remember fishing by him many times using this rig tipped with wigglers. The idea was to balance it in such away that the slightest bite would pull the rod tip down. I remember that the wigglers would make it bounce when they would work. This old outfit is over 20 years old. Still works too.

Weed - this works with spikes or beemoth BUT it was made for wigglers. The old guys would put out 3 rigs all within arms reach and sit back on their buckets and wait. Man, I have seen a ton of fish caught this way. With the wigglers a small split shot and small wire hook was used.
Simple but very effective.

Fished with wigglers once. Not available where I usually fished. Looks to be a simple concept!

Okay...I see now. Wow.....never seen those before. Pretty cool, actually! Looks like you would have to use the exact same set-up time after time tho?? To balance the rig out??

As long as it is balanced correct it will work. I put the duct tape on the back side to keep the handle from tipping up too high. Guys would carry a roll of electrical tape to add weight if needed. Remember no bobber is needed - just your ice jig/bait and a small split if needed.
The grove that it sets in also helps from loosing your rod.

bean,
I have to say Ive never seen that set up. Wigglers are fun to fish with and do make a bobber dance. The bait store was called Cree's and now its a knitting and sewing shop.....kind of made me cringe when I drove by it last week.
Ive got some old rods and might make up a rig or two. The perch run should start around the last of Feb when the perch hit the shallow sandbars to spawn. This usually happens just before ice out. h.h.

Luke,
tell the old man to pony up and get the wigglers online so you can start catching those giant gills and jumbo perch!
I went into a local bait store yesterday and on sign it said "wigglers".......... I asked the owner, you got wigglers and he said "yes" but they are the worm kind, not the stonefly larva.......bummer.
