If you are talking September in the Rockies, I'm a big fan of Lowa Renegade GTX Mids for elk hunting.
(lightweight, Gore-Tex, good ankle support and a Vibram sole) Renegades won't slow you down and are quiet enough for stalking.

I tried MANY different boots in prep for elk hunting a few years ago, and settled on Meindl brand (Cabela's carries them).

Certainly not the cheapest, but for me they are by far the best quality, fit, feel, etc. We were going 8-10+ miles a day in 2012, and the boots were great. I will stick with Meindl!

It's hard to soar like an eagle when you're flying with a bunch of turkeys.

Anything Lowa makes is great....that's all I wear. Be patient and you can find them on sale. The Renegades as pav mentioned, are the most comfortable and lightest weight and require no break-in period. For rockier terrain, you may want the taller, heavier models with rubber banding to prevent boot damage, like the Tibets or the Hunter GTX.

I usually re-equip all my boots with aftermarket insoles to get more padding, especially if I'll be packing heavy loads.

My Lowa Tibets will be flying to Alaska with me Friday morning. Going to see how they perform on the tundra.

Ditto on the aftermarket insoles. All my leather boots have Lathrop & Sons gel insoles.

I'm flying there on Monday. What are you hunting?

We're sitting in Fairbanks right now waiting on a phone call from our pilot. Should be on the tundra this afternoon.

Three of us are bowhunting caribou on this trip. We were advised yesterday to not waste money on a black bear tag....as the caribou herds are still hanging out in grizzly areas.

Probably won't see your reply until we get back....so good luck on your hunt!

Paul
