We are in the planning stage for the 2016 hog hunt. It would appear we will hunt again with Pope Brothers Guide service and will be somewheer in Texas either, Feb, 25-28 or Feb 18-21 2015.

I have told the guide (Clay Pope) we will have 8-12 people, we have eight confirmed today. If you are interested in going please reply promptly, the cost with air flight will be around $1500.00.

Lodging, meals, hunt and skinning and quartering fees are included. This is a hunt where you can shoot all the pigs you see.........

Great hunt and a real "camp" atmosphere........ dont apply if you can't smile!

Possibly interested. Can you send more info please?

It's hard to soar like an eagle when you're flying with a bunch of turkeys.

Will send info when I get date and price confirmed. The hunt will be in the Texas hill country south and west of San Antonio.Eight people are confirmed and no more than 12 in the group. All meals on hunt and lodging is provided as well as gutting skinning and quartering of any hogs taken. You can shoot any and all you see no limit. Texas does require Hunter Ed and the license is $52.50 it can be bought online or at a Walmart when you arrive.

I'll post dates and price as soon as I hear back from guide.

Need to add a couple of things here for those who are interested in going.

1. Shots are typically 75 to 175 yards.

2. Rifles need to be .243 or larger, I have used muzzleloader in the past and others used shotguns with slugs(12 guage).

3. The BEST scope you have or can aquire, last number should be either 40 or 50, a 3X9X32 will not work.

4. Most hogs are killed after dark.your scope must be able to gather all available light, thus the need for 40 or 50 bell on scopes.

5. For best results everyone should purchase a "Sniper Hog Light" (Google search) They are around $175.00 but they give you the light you need to see and shoot out to 200 yards. green or red is the preferred color. watch their videos to see what I mean.

6. Good bino's are a plus as you will use them rather than your scope to search for pigs at night.

7. At least one person will drive, that person(s) will carry all guns, coolers and one piece of luggage per hunter. All those flying will contribute to the driver(s) expense. This is cheaper and easier for those who fly, rather than additional baggage fees.

8. Figure into cost the guide and cook tips, generally around an additional $175.00. You will also have a night in San Antonio when you arrive on Wednesday and at least a dinner that night.

9. The hunt will begin at noon on a Thursday, dinner served around 4 pm and we begin to hunt. Hunt Thursday evening/night until Saturday evening night. Breakfast Sunday morning the npictures and butchering, some will go for a plane and others drive back to Indy. If you fly you share cost of rental needed and that is an additional 70.00 or less.

This is a ton of fun if you have the correct equipment. I'll answer any questions you guys have.So let me give you a rough estimate of costs.......

Hunt. 975.00

Flight 425.00

hotel 50.00

car 65.00

driver 75.00

dinner 25.00

guide 125.00

cook 25.00

license 50.00

hog light 175.00

Total... 1,940.00

My guess for a new guy flying and needing the hog light figure $2000.00.

Ok I received reply from the outfitter.

The hunt starts on Thursday Feb 25 2016 at noon and ends noon on Feb 28(Sunday).

Those people who went on the hunt this year get priority. I must have a decision on next year from them by April 10th. Vacancy can then be filled and the total can not be more than 10(bunk space).

First payment must be at guide service by May 1st. of $300.00 each. Then another July 1st and final on October 1st. You can pay in full or do thirds. Checks are to be made out to PBGS NOT me. Mail them to me and I will forward to guide.

Joe Bacon

1701 e Lawrence ave Indianapolis 46227

Be aware there is NO refund of any payments by the guide service or me.

I will notify new people in the order I received them as follows for openings.

Let me quickly say.

We hunted the Stuart7 ranch in Caddo Ok this year, an easy 13 hour drive. It is a little cheaper than the PBGS hunt, but when you factor in if they take care of hogs it could become more expensive, they charge $50.00 per hog. Food was good lodge excellent and if you saw hogs you saw a bunch, twenty or more in a group. We killed eight between eight people and one hunter never saw a hog. You can google Stuart7 ranch for more info.

Or if you want to book a group you put together, google Pope Brothers Guide Service for a Texas hunt. Discounts for a group of five or more, $350.00 a day for less than five with a two person minimum. Food is excellent, Lodge can be great or average at best, depends on which ranches you hunt. Pope Brothers do their best to get you into hogs, but again no guarantee. Each year on our hunts someone will not score or even a couple people.

If you choose to pick another hunt REMEMBER to pick dates on,before or immeadiately after a full moon. It gets awfully HOT in both states after April, hence the summer discounts for summer monts at PBGS.

Everyone needs to do a real wild hog hunt at least once, Penned presrve hunts don't count as wild........

ArLowe and his dad took the available spots, we are full for next year.

Antiwheeze and animalhouse, if I can assist you in any way on getting hooked up for a hog hunt let me know. I am not a guide service or a booking agent for anyone. After 15 years of doing hog hunts I do know a little about what to look for. Check out wither of the two services above both are great guides.
