...... I mean a BIG dog today in my yote set.

He was not very happy.

I tried by myself to get it free. Being my first dog and using my catch pole for the first time on something that big, I opted to get some help. It growled and lunged at me a few times, so I thought this may take 2 hands.

I called my local CO since he lives 1/4 mile away. He told me it was not his job being that is was a domestic dog and to call the Sheriff Animal control. Called them and the officer I needed was on vacation, so they can't send anyone to help BUT did give my number to some animal intervention place that offered to let me use a 3' long shot w/ a tranq (which I would have to pay for). Not going to do that. Called CO back to see if he would help since no one else would. Told me no.

I hated to do it, but I called the landowner of the farm and asked his help. He had been hauling grain all night but is a good friend and was up.

The dog took both of us to get it down and the trap off. Glad I got some help especially for my first big dog.

When we let it free it sat down and looked at us. My friend called for it and it came over and sat beside him. As I was leaving it was trying to get in my Escape. Nice dog but I hope to not see it again.

Should have called friend first. Catch pole worked although I am still not confident on handling something that big alone yet..

Great story Bean. Sounds like a heck of an ordeal, especially the part about the dog sitting down and looking at you.

We freed a redtail hawk that we caught in a dirt hole set many many years ago. Took my denim chore coat off and wrapped him up in it so we could free him and he flew off no worse for the wear. It was a two man job with those big talons. Good work gettin help I'm sure it was much easier and didn't do as much damage to the dog.

I am kind of baffled by the CO's response "Its not my job" I thought law enforcement was to Serve and Protect. I could see if he was really busy with something or he was a long way off. What a pal.

Yeah....I don't get that either.

Sorry, but I had to laugh at that one Bean! All I got to say about that whole mess is.......You have a lot more patience about things that I do!!!

DOn't feel bad about it, It WILL happen. I've only caught two in all my years trapping. One was the neighbors last year. The dog was just fine afterward. Those offset jaws do as they are suppose to.

I can't imagine a CO not being "BUSY" this time of year!!!

they handle wildlife not stray dogs caught in traps.
