I have always used .22 lr, but just picked up 100 rounds of .22 shorts to try out this season. I use and old single shot rifle so ejection/cycling won't be an issue

Do you any of you guys use this round on coyotes and coon?

dave rural king in columbus is starting to have .22 more often. wednesdays and saturdays have been good days to find it.

i just bought a heritage rough rider .22 revolver for the trapline. i plan on shooting shorts through it.

We are using the .22 barrel that exchanges on our Rossi .410/22. It is small and light. It says .22 long but it worked fine.

I am using the same gun. Maybe I am the last one to figure this out, but shooting them in the chest and not the head leads to a lot less mess at the set and when skinning.

I also found a taxidermist who is buying the coyote skulls from me.

and a whole in the chest wont affect the fur value? i know they say the head doesnt get used so thats why most shoot in head but i agree head shots are a bloody mess.

the NAFA manual reads...

"Sewing Holes
With the exception of .22 calibre bullet holes, always
carefully sew-up any holes. Depending on the location and
the number of holes on the pelt, in most cases, neatlysewn
holes generally do not affect the grade of a pelt...."

Shot mine in the head and it was bloody. Chest time now. You guys shooting them behind shoulder or what? Tell me your shot placement.

heart shot is quickest way for a humane kill. dont be suprised if ayote will live a couple minutes on a heart shot. got one last year in heart and took a few minutes to die.

Just like the shot placement on a deer. Behind the shoulder mid way up on the chest, and through the lungs. They just stand there, and expire in 15 seconds.

+1

if you really want zero mess, you can stick some sheep's wool in the .22 chest entrance hole.

I went to the trappers convention at hoosier trapper supply this yaer and a guy there that was doing a demo just whacks them in the head with his spade shovel and then stomps them on their chest a few times. Dead coyote. I do this on coons with my catch pole. I get them around the neck with my catch pole and then stomp them right behind the shoulder. No blood at all.
