Anyone put any steel in the ground today? I did a few sets but may wait until the rain moves through and then set several more out.

Trying to put sets in that do not interrupt my deer areas. I also know that I am way UNDER trapped. Need to get some more...

Good luck to all the trappers this year. All hunters owe you for keeping the varmints under control.

I'm not going to chance catching a coyote now, and it not be prime, and only get 10 bucks for it, when in a month or later from now he'll be worth at least 3 times that much. They aren't going anywhere...... laugh

Good luck guys! Waiting on the pics! and PARKERBOW!!!! TAKE YOUR CAMERA THIS YEAR!!!! :p laugh

Yaz, I understand what you are saying and agree, However, I was told by a couple "veteran" trappers to go ahead and put a few sets out to get the experience of doing it since the weather is a bit nicer. We will have many more sets out for yotes as well and coon sets later. Looking forward to hitting it hard and I found a guy 5 miles from my house that is buying this year.

I would too if I were you Bean. I was just trying to justify to myself to NOT set any traps right now....even though I really want to!!! ...I haven't even had time to sit in a deer stand once yet, let alone get my traps ready! THAT'S the real reason.... laugh

I am with ya Yaz. I am too big into deer hunting to mess with traps right now. I usually wait until at least the end part of nov to start trapping. And Yes, where ever i go this year i will have my darn camera. Seen a yote 15 yards behind me this evening deer hunting but could not get a shot at it. I just chuckled and thought wait till later your arsh will be on a stretcher come later. :p

Question: After you make sets and then it rains, how often do you "freshen" them up? Or even do you?

bean i feel checking your trap bed and trap is more important after a rain then rebaiting and lure. the mud can be a real pain on a trap and will cause it not to fire.

I check them from as far away as possible (from the seat of my atv) and don't mess with them unless the trap is exposed by the rain. I want them to look natural. Bait and lure is going to be fine unless the hole is full of water.

The 4 coiled #4 I am using is going to fire through mud. The only time it won't fire is when frozen done. We are a ways from worrying about that though... =)

I had to add some peat moss to 2 this morning where the jaw was showing. Caught one pup and turned a possum loose this morning.

Cool and thanks. I caught a huge boar coon and a rabbit 2 days ago. Like my redneck catch pole - worked great. The coon just looked at me and walked away.

Stopped at Hoosier Trapper Friday on the way down to Big Oaks. I was impressed with their store. Got a lot of supplies I needed and feel lucky to only spent $175.00. Got 3 Minnesota 550 OS traps and anxious to get them set.

See Yaz, I told you they had more stuff in the back room......LOL h.h.
