Sorry guys if you get tired of the yote pics but i just get so darn excited when i catch a yote. caught this one on a flat set using a duke #2. He was a big male. Too bad his fur was bad. looked like someone grazed him pretty good during gun season because he had a 4 inch long by 2 inch wide gash on his back what looked to be a slug graze, it was really infected. Anyone that has ever skinned a yote knows they are stinky enough on a healthy one let alone an infected one. i think i put him out of his misery.

I use the heavy duty bershire disposable stakes. I usually have to dig them back out with a small shovel cause i cannot just pull them out and I am 200 lbs and pretty strong. They hold really well and are light weight.

Post pictures of all of your canine catches PB. I find them interesting. When you say "flat set", are you talking about a scent post, not a dirt hole? BTW- i made a puller that will yank those cable stakes right out of the ground without having to dig.

Yaz, a flat set to me is just a set that has some backing like a clump of grass or a log and i just take my stake driver and poke a hole in front of the backing to put my lure in and squirt some urine on it. I do use scent post and dirt holes and try to mix things up a bit and put out 2 different sets in a good area. The flat set is a little quicker to put in. I would also like to see a pic of your stake puller.

Here is my version of a stake puller. 2.5"x1" tube handle that is 5' long. The hook is about 14" from the plate on the bottom. I use the extra hook because it is easier to get it on the stake that is 3 or 4 inches below the ground. It will pull them out easily unless the ground is frozen several inches down. Sometimes it is easier to use the second hook to get it started, and above the ground, and then hook the stake directly to the puller to finish getting it out of the ground. I use the cable stakes on traps and snares exclusively now. SO, i don't if this puller would work on rebar type stakes. [Linked Image]

14" give or take a little. They sure beat pounding in two rebar stakes on coyote sets!

I had some coon sets with Birkshires and was pulling them by hand and apparently strained something in my back. Definately going to take your puller ideas and make one of my own.

Nice skinning machine BTW!

I learned last year that once you skin a yote on one of those you will never go back to pulling by hand.

I bought my base off of ADC in Iowa, for those you are not familiar with how they work, here he is showing how to skin a coon on it.

The skinning machine makes it soooooo much easier skinning a yote. It's almost like cheating. I had a buddy weld this base for me and I just use a hand boat type winch to crank it up. It works great!!!!!

Yes, it looks cool but it did not seem to make a difference when I pulled the hide off. The best thing is to try and skin them shortly after you kill them. they are much easier to skin when they are warm. Skinning machine is the way to go.
