For Big Oaks this year I will be using Hevi-shot Magnum Blend. I bought a pack a BP last week and found out there is a $10 rebate for up to 2 boxes.

If you use this or bought them recently, here ya go:

http://www.cabelas.com/assets/pdfs/hevishot_20save_6-30-14.pdf

I also need a new choke to shoot this load. My other turkey choke is a Xfull but for lead only. Looked at Jellyhead and Hevi-shot tubes. Any suggestions?

Call and talk to Mike or Stuart and tell them what gun you are using. They will set you up.

Bean, unless the choke is ported you can use it for heavy shot. The only trouble ive heard about is some ported chokes blew the end off when using heavy shot. The chokes that had that trouble the port was a long hole around the choke, kind of north and south instead of following the length or east and west. But it is your gun so don't do something you feel unsafe, plus it gives you a reason to buy something new......h.h.

Last Sunday my friends grandson who Im taking on the youth hunt patterned his 870 20ga with a lead only Remington turkey choke. He tried #5 Win Supremes, XX and #6 Remington Hevi Shot. They all shot good patterns at 30 yards. h.h.

From Remington:

You will need a bi-metal choke tube for this. Hevi-Shot and Wingmaster HD chokes are bi-metal chokes that are hardened for use with steel shot and other non-toxic alternatives. A standard turkey choke that is marked for "Lead Only" should not be used. Our apologies.

Thank you and best regards,

I think they will still be fine:

"The Black Diamond Strike is designed to knock turkeys right off their feet. Precision engineered to the industries tightest tolerances, this tube has been proven to kill many a bird. The Strike will accommodate all lead, steel and hybrid heavy loads with shot sizes from #2 through #8."

From their website.

Yes, I have called and emailed them asking what loads work best for a certain choke, gun combination. They are very helpful.

As for the high price....Quality only hurts once.

Ordered one. See if you boys are correct smile

Actually ordered it through Midway USA. Indian Creek had none available. Bass Pro was on back order. Midway had them for 71.99 - 10.00. So I ended up getting it for $66 including shipping. Be here early next week.

Shot a couple 3.5" Hevi #7s thru my 870 today. Shot at a couple empty water bottles maybe 25 yards. Ask Keith how they did... laugh

Seems choke preference changes each year like turkey loads. One year is Pure Gold, next year its Indian Creek and now this year Sumtoy. LOL h.h.

I hear ya. However when I buy something and it works I usually hang onto it forever. If this patterns well for me I probably will shoot it for a very long time
