Received news at the Indiana Bowhunter Banquet last night that Dr. Jim Mitchell, retired Indiana Deer Biologist, was killed in an auto accident on Friday.

Years ago, when I accepted the position as IBA Rep to the Indiana Deer Advisory Committee, I remember Gene Hopkins saying:

"You may not always like to hear what Jim is saying about deer management, but you can count on it being the truth."

Those words proved to be absolute and I gained alot of respect for Jim during my years with the IDAC....and after.

Oh no .... aw man .... I met Jim back in the late '90's early 2000's during the "deer wars" up here....he was a huge help in fighting the anti's giving me tons if info and a great help in setting up the urban bow hunts in Beverly Shores and even more help when I was on the Deer Study committee and went up against HSUS and Zoo Montana and their contraceptive specialists and researchers(Jim despised those people )...the info he gave was invaluable and I gave them **** with that info.......He was always about "opportunity" for the hunters, and yes, I may not have agreed always with him on some of those "opportunities", he didnt mince words ...IMO, he was the best Indiana has had for a deer biologist...Dr. Jim Mitchell may you rest in peace and God's speed.......

Rest in Peace Dr Mitchell.... I may not have agreed with all of his philosophy on deer management but he was always forthright. Jim hated the OBR but he went with what sportsmen wanted.
