Spring (March to early April) is a good time to plant clover if you're doing a prepared seed bed. May is good for soybeans. Fall (mid Aug to early Sept) is the time to plant turnips or radishes, or winter green plots like oats or wheat or rye.
I'm not much into paying extra for the blended stuff with deer pictures on the bag. We plant soybeans in May, using a shatter resistant variety so the pods will hang on into December, if the deer don't clean them up before that. Then in the fall we'll put in winter rye. It comes in thicker than wheat, and stays green long into winter. Oats are good too, but they can freeze out and die in Nov/Dec.
And sometimes we'll plant turnips in the fall if we have room. They need about 55 days to mature before freezing temps hit, so Aug 15-20th is a good time frame to plant.

I'm spraying tomorrow a area after the morning turkey sit.....Ive got a new spot to hit with Gly.... I'm debating to plant clover this spring or wait till late summer and hit it again once or twice with gly throught the summer....we'll then go in with big hand rakes and rough it up and remove all the dead grass before planting, its a small spot, but in a good location....

I dont know if you edited your prior post, because I thought you previously posted that you planted "Throw-N'-Grow" or something like that. If so, you can't really control weeds with those mix-in-a-bag type plots in a spring planting. That's the reason I made the soybean recommendation above, for a spring/summer plot. Roundup Ready beans can be sprayed for weeds a few weeks after they've emerged and just before they get to the point of creating a canopy. The glyphosate (roundup) kills everything but the beans. For clover, you can mow it to help control the weeds. You can also spray it with a selective herbicide for grass. For that mix-in-a-bag stuff, about your only hope is to control the weeds ahead of planting, and then hope for the best. In most cases, it doesn't work out. Not in a spring planting anyway. You still have plenty of time to burn down your plot site with non-selective weed killer and start over with soybeans. Or wait 'til fall and spray, then plant a winter green plot like oats or wheat or rye. Or possibly some brassicas or turnips.

I indeed did plant thro & gro which was a mixture of clover, brassica, rye grass, and radishes. A bunch of clover, a few radishes, rye grass, and a little bit of the brassicas have bloomed up, but so have the weeds. Thanks for the tips sticksender!
