We were talking about ideas how to keep other hunters out of your tree stand on public property. For example, the platform of a portable stand can be chained/locked into the vertical position so others physically cannot sit in it. Other ideas? What about other stand types such as ladder stands?
(of course, let's get beyond the obvious of taking it down each time)

Thanks.

I have a hard enough time finding a good hunting spot on public land, I don't like to advertise.

My viper climber goes in and out with me each time.

I dont use ladders, so I cant speak on that.....but on state land, as stated I will use locks or cables to keep the portable stand folded, plus dont leave climbing stick up.....on private I use the Sky hook steps for the lower 5/6 steps and remove those, leaving the lag bolts and then use screw ins for the remainder of steps....if I hunt JP this year, I'll either use my climber, which limits the trees and locations I can access or I'll pack in a portable and use either sticks or rope on steps....

That screen that goes over the rungs of a ladder is a bright and simple idea ..... I like it !

Sounds like you have theft proof stands. Id be more interested in learning about those than keeping people out. Only stands I have had stolen off public land were at locations I knew better than to leave them. My suggestion would be to lose your trail markers(bright eyes tacks, tape, etc) and get away from obvious stand sites(near trails, parking areas, field edges, etc). If its easy for you to acces/find, it's probably easy for thiefs too. Carry a climber to those places.

I have had stands stolen at JP before. 2X!

Hunting Kingsbury as of late. I generally keep mine in the woods but my son was thinking about putting a stand just off a fire lane where we routinely see deer walking the lane. This is how we got onto the subject. I did like the screen block, neat idea!

As far as theft proof, I use a cable lock on the stand itself as well as the ladder stick (for my portable) and a cable lock on my ladder. I feel a thief will come back with tools and steal if it they really want it regardless. I'll make them work for it but won't give it away! Heck, I suppose they could disassemble in pieces if they really want. The only true way to prevent the theft is to pack in/out each time. Unfortunate, isn't it?!

Good ideas. Thanks for the input. I'll keep checking to see if other ideas pop up.

Sadly, that would be fairly easy to get around.

Yep
