There is a large bean field (owned by a friend) next to our campground on the Ohio River in Milton, KY. I see deer in the beans just about every evening and morning, but was able to finally see how they would react to my drone flying over them. I have seen upwards to 20 deer at a time feeding in this field, but only 3 this evening.

The drone is fairly loud, so I'm sure the deer can hear it from 100+ yards away, but it seems like if high enough, they don't really care about it. You'll see if it gets low enough, they don't appreciate the buzzing, haha.

I believe this is not legal in Indiana at certain times of the year per new State law.

Illegal to aid in hunting. Not illegal to fly around taking pictures.

Great footage arlowe.....What was your approx. height above the deer that you could stay without spooking them? What was your distance from the Drone ?

They put a time limit before season starts, 14 days I think.

If I stayed above 50ft or so, they didn't seem to care. I was about 1200ft from the drone in this video.

Isn't taking an inventory with a drone the same as having trail cams out? Except now it's illegal to do it 14 days up to and during deer season on properties you hunt with a drone. Plus, you can tell by my video it is very tough if not impossible to get close enough to really see much detail about the deer.

I think the main concern is pulling up to a place you hunt, flying your drone out over an area to see if there are deer and then making a hunting decision based on that information.

No it's no the same.... And real time cams are not legal in Indiana for hunting also.

I never heard they were illegal? We use them for trapping around Indianapolis but they don't get service where we hunt. They still take great pics though so we use them for deer hunting as well.

I didn't know there was a ruling on real time cams. I don't have any but it would be nice to be sure of the laws.

Yes, my dad owns a business trapping nuisance wildlife where it is very beneficial to know when an animal enters a trap.

Yes we use those cameras during deer season, but the cell function doesn't work where we hunt because of no cell service, so they operate like a normal trail camera where you have to go out and check the camera.

For what it's worth, drone operation is also regulated by Federal law. FAA dictates that you can't operate a drone within 5 miles of any airport, the drone must be in your visual line of sight at all times (with the naked eye), you can't operate above any person who is not part of your operation, you can't go higher than 400 feet unless above a structure, and other rules that are listed in their website.

As far as the rule about trail cams that send pics to your cell or email, the DNR added a paragraph in the regs several years ago that seemed to make it a violation to use them or any other remote operated device while hunting. I don't know if that rule still exists, and don't see it in the latest regs, but might be missing it.

I didnt think the "realtime" cameras were illegal. Just thought you were not eligible for the "record book" if that is how you acquired your buck. I could be way off here but who knows.
