A 10% jump in antlered deer harvest..... Yikes

Anyone ever remember the type of increase?

Non Residents took almost 6000 more deer this season(2015) than the 2014 season and nonresident license sales soared nearly 6000 licenses than 2014...wonder why the huge increase ??

IN NR tags are cheap and easy to get, word got out in the national press we have B/C and P/Y caliber deer....

I run into IL hunters on IN public ground all the time, they come here because access is easy and tags are cheap.

IN got ranked #10, IA got ranked #17!

Well there ya go...It is always said the DNR is hurting for cash....add $200 onto the deer bundle(295 to 495), double the Single license(150 to 299) and make the antlerless $75-100 for the second tag... same for Turkey...double them.... leave the youth alone...

Indiana made a non resident deer license extremely attractive to Ohio residents by adding crossbows (large established hunter base) and bundle licensing (non weapon specific, OTC and bargain priced). We only share roughly 180 miles of state border...and they are a one buck state too. What else should we expect?... and that's just one border state.

Looking at these numbers, I am more thankful than ever for OBR!

There may have been a large increase in antlered kills last year, but really, our trend is pretty flat.

I think there may be something going on with the non-resident numbers.

If you look @ the non-resident license sales/harvest numbers from 2011/14 they averaged roughly 12,000 licenses sold per year and harvest numbers of 4,000 per year (or about a 33% success rate).

Last season, non-resident license sales jumped to 16,000 (which may/may not be correct) but the harvest number jumped to 11,000 deer (for a 67% success rate)....

So the numbers of licenses sold not only jumped by 4,000, but the success rate went from 33% to 67%?

I think someone @ the DNR might want to double check those numbers.

The DNR adjusted the non-resident numbers from last season.

According to the new data...

NR sales were 16,440
NR harvest was 5,767

It's been adjusted on the 2015 deer harvest report.
