Anybody go to the first rounds? If so how were they? We are in Versailles for the late hunt of which I never stepped foot in...so if anyone has pointers let me know.

"I dream of the day when my son can join me in the woods on a hunt. I will pass on all that I have learned to him, just like my father did to me. To me, this defines tradition which can survive for endless generations as long as we do our part."

I went to potato creek. I hunted there last year and had decent luck. We didn't even see a deer there this year. We seen a couple decent bucks taken but nothing like the year before. Not sure what was going on there, but it was definitely a decrease in deer numbers. I didn't hear 1/4 of the shots as I did last year, numbers were way down

I should add, that I go on these hunts with the intent to help reduce the herd. I shoot the first deer I see. I had 2 deer in gun range, both were bucks. I took the first one and watched the second (much smaller) run up close enough to pet. I yelled "get out a here boy" and sent him on his way. Saw two does as well.
Drives me nuts that guys sit out there and pass deer looking for a trophy. If one comes by, great. If not? Help reduce the herd

I was curious about this as well, I'm in Versailles for the 2nd hunt and have not been there either. I'm in the Red zone.

I was in Pokagon today - they killed 37 for the early hunt and historically have never killed more than 9 on the second hunt. Typically 40+/- for the year total. I will be in there with basically zero expectations on the second hunt (not drawn for any first hunts this year). Place is only 1200 acres and they draw 67 hunters I believe, 57 showed for the hunt this week. I did find a spot which I am already second guessing.

Consistent luck is nothing more than hard work and preparation.

My son and I have been drawn for the second hunt at McCormicks creek. Does anyone have a recommendation for an area? Thanks

I had the best luck along the river

I have also spotlighted some giants in the fields east of the park.

we know rivers are great travel corridors so I would head west and find a pinch point. Saw lots of sign along the river when I was there last. Park in primitive camping and head west or north on trail 6. Buddy and I split up, I went west he went north last time I hunted there...
