They are definitely moving... do you think the rut is on or more of the chase phase still for a bit?

The young bucks (primarily) are doing a lot of cruising and fighting. I have been out Wednesday evening, Thursday evening, and this (Friday) morning. It has been non stop young buck action. All 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 year olds. 19 different bucks in three days all on the same farm. I've seen one doe and a coyote also. The young guys are checking every thicket that they can find it seems. Almost every time they cross paths with each other they are locking horns. It has been pretty cool to watch.

The big boys should start getting on their feet any day now.

Haven't been this excited for the rut in years. Next 9 days off. Looking forward to some serious tree time.

It all depends on where your at...It may in in YOUR wood's but down the road 5 miles NOTHING !!

Ive got multiple trail cam pics of 8 different bucks hitting a primary scrape, but 80% are at night...we have some big ones on cams, sparing and such, working the scrapes, and pawing, but their tarsals are not even dark yet(??)

we sat out ALL DAY fri, I had my decoy out in the PM....Fri. AM was a huge zilch, even as good of weather it was we saw zilch, then with the Decoy out, I had only one mom and her young check it out...my buddy saw one doe by her self in the evening...this is just 1 mile north of the Wabash, just outside Wabash....

Then this morning before the rain hit, I watched two adult Does cross a cut bean field with no bucks following, did see one busted rack 2pt by himself later...my buddy saw Zilch....

next week is going to be real warm, so movement will be at night again....hopefully by next weekend and my Vacation, then the week going into the firearms opener (I'll still be out with the Bow as usual), temps drop and the big guys will be into the daytime movement, cause it aint happening yet around us...heck, last year the week before the opener it was 12 degree's and we had snow and the 11th,12th and 13th was wild with daytime buck movement...... go figure ..

I saw what looked to be about an 120 inch 8 pointer on Saturday morning, and then Saturday evening I saw a doe and a nice 10 pointer. All out of range and on the run. Then on Sunday morning, I saw a deer that I think is the one that has been on my property for a long time now, and I've always called him Nick Jr. I could tell at about 300 yards that he had 6 points on one side and the other I could make out at the least 5 points. Not including brotines! He was chasing a doe.

I haven't seen squat the last 4 mornings. All the movement is at night time yet or late evening.

I even went walking around scouting in some spots i used to hunt to see if there was any sign today. There were not any scrapes where scrapes usually are. Did not see many rubs either. I think they are still a week or two away around here. But it seems I typically see the most buck movement in my area around Nov 10th or so. It just stinks when they should be cruising and moveing all over the place and all you see is squirrels and crows.

dead around here, no buck movement. The doe movement is about the same as it's been for the past 2 weeks.

next week and a cold front should be the ticket!!

Action starting to pick up this evening. Witnessed an hour-long chase with a mature buck making loud bawling grunts over & over. Could only catch glimpses as they were deep in a thicket, but I recognized the buck and he's very familiar to me. That kind of chasing tells me that at least one doe is coming in heat.

Really need some cool weather to get the daytime action going though. Most of the deer are waiting until sunset or after to get up & move.

It was a beautiful evening to hunt tonight....just too warm!

I hunted Sun. morning from 6:00-9:30. I was hunting on a ridge over a funnel. As the sun came up, I watched a doe and a fawn stand up behind me about 30 yards (guess i made a quiet entry). They fed for a bit, then a half hour later a 2 yr old small 8 came through slowly feeding. A little later I had a forkie and a button together come through and bed down at 60 yds. Lots of grunting going on, but they all were just slowly going through feeding on browse. With the wet leaves and being overcast it was a good lesson in sitting still. They were totally silent and blended in. If I wasn't paying attention at all times, i might have missed them. They didnt seem like they were even seeking yet (Clinton county).

Still like that in many areas ..... it just aint happening on a large state wide scale....weather/warmth isnt helping, neither was the full moon...next week will be cooler and no dam moon lighting up the night .... bucks are going to do what has to be done, Does WILL come into estrus....I want COLD, but it dosnt look like we will get it going into the next opener....50's daytime, upper 30's-40's at night next week....not Ideal....

Last night I jumped a 12 pointer while on my atv. It was beaded down a long a fence row in a cornfield. I easily counted 12 points. I stopped and shut off my atv immediately. It ran all the way down the fence line, past my blind, and took a left into the woods. I'd say he'll be around for awhile but I can't shoot him.

It just seems up here in Randolph County for the past week that the rut has really started in. I've seen many bucks chasing does and just many deer in general.

It was a great night for sitting in the stand to watch wildlife, I had visits from all kinds of birds (including a hawk about 20 yds. away), chipmunks, squirrels, and coons, but not a single deer tonight. Had a bug kamikaze me right in the eye too. lol Still a nice relaxing night in God's nature.

Weather change after tomorrow. Overnight low temps Sat & Sun in the lower 30's.

I wouldn't want to miss a single day in the stand after tomorrow wink

2 all day sits for me this weekend! Here is my favorite spot looking west by northwest. Bucks are going to walk from the bottom, cross the creek in front of me and then pass to my right heading up to a saddle. Wind should be just about perfect Saturday through Sunday morning. Might have to switch it up on Sunday afternoon if I'm not tagged out smile

Vacation starts today, finish off some stuff here at home, then after a 100+ mile drive I'll be in a stand very early tomorrow for an All Day sit in one of our better funnels, first time in it this season too.. Great location ! .... Good winds tomorrow(W/NW), and much cooler temps....however the winds for the week really suck, as they will not allow us to get into some of our best stand locations after tomorrow(Sat).... whats up with all the southerlies anyways...crap !! we want North/NW/NE's !! so tomorrow will be it for the northerlies ... DRATS !!

We have been seeing quite a bit of activity in Clark County. My hunting buddy got a good video of a small 9 moving with a doe on Tuesday night.

I'm off work until the 16th, and I know exactly where I'll be every day until then. Happy hunting to all!

Heading out to hunt the Hoosier. Saw a real nice one last night about dark running a doe along the road. She crossed into public, he circled back off into some scrub. In general not seen much action or even smaller bucks yet though. Good luck this weekend should be a good one.

Our group is hunting some normally productive land adjacent to kingsbury f&w. All we can say is we ain't seeing diddly. We've never been this concerned this far into the season.virtually every picture is after dark and not many bucks either.

Finally saw a decent group of does and fawns with NO bucks in tow. A good 45 minutes later I had 3 bucks walk through ,basically a batchlor group. The Bucks looked rut ready ,physically ,but, did not show any aggression or "horniness", if you know what I mean.

Was super excited to finally get ask in the woods this weekend... after not being able to hunt for the last 2 weeks due to family obligations...

Hunted Sunday morning & saw a nice 8-10 right at
9am... he wasn't chasing... just doing his thing... sniffing the ground every few steps...

Nothing Sunday evening....

Saw several deer right after dark on the trip back to the cabin...

Then nothing Monday morning... sat till 11

But I am off Thursday till Monday... so here's to hoping!!!

I bet there are lots of big deer killed this weekend... this is about as early as it gets for firearms opener!!!

I saw a nice buck herding a doe in the middle of a field on the way up to South Bend on US 31 yesterday about 8:30 am.

Plenty of headless roadkills especially north of Peru.
