I had about 150 acres of beautiful green soybeans last week before the frost. I hunted over them one evening instead of standing corn nearby and the deer were clearly in the beans. Fast forward a couple of days and a couple of heavy frosts. My beans now look wilted and clearly on life support.

Question. Will the deer still prefer the beans over the now cut corn? Am I wasting my time to sit over the beans. Even though they still are green and have pods on them.
(note. The farmer made some improvements to the ground that took into late July. The beans were planted as a cover crop only. That is why they are still green.)

Only way to find out is sit over them and/or use a trail cam. From my experience they'll still eat them but will prefer other greens if they can still find some elsewhere. Later they'll hammer the pods.

I agree with stick, they will hammer them once it gets really cold. I wouldnt sit over them now. Id find acorns or try the corn.

+1 on the above posts.

Nothing better than standing beans in late season when the other food is gone. I bet your spot only gets better then with the late bean planting.

Until it gets super cold, brown beans dont seem to be a big draw...better late season than now....

IF they are still green they will still be on them! when they turn yellow they are done eating them until later in the season when they seek carbs for warmth. Those cover crop fields are awesome right now because they are the only green ones left.

I had 15 deer come in to my standing beans on Sunday evening (10/18) and they were crushing them. I thought they would have gone for some fresh cut corn which was just across a fence. Only 3 of the 15 went over and ate in the picked cornfield. These beans are completely brown and they were eating them like it was late December. It was an awesome night.
