With firearms coming in on November 14th when will you all be planning your rut vacation? I was torn between 1st or 2nd week of November so I'm going to take most of both lol. Last year I got exhausted with a long extended time off so this year I want to try more short stints to keep focus and energy as top notch as I can. What say you other hoosier hunters?

Yes I most definitely invest my vacation time off for archery Hunts. Typically I pick the week before gun to ensure I end vacation with opening weekend without chance of work interference. But this year km leaning towards more time off during the first week of November.

Before the time change I'm able to hunt every afternoon after work in addition to every weekend.... I can squeeze a few extra hours of vacation time for afternoon hunts that week before taking off. My wife laughs at my camper shell on my truck bit it allows me to basically carry all my hunting gear during the season....full assortment of clothing, boots, smoker, all my archery gear. 15 minutes from work to the farm and an understanding wife allows me to spend a lot of time in the stand. I'm going to try and stay out of the woods more in early October than I have in years past...hit the first week and kill a couple of does then wait till late October / early November and go after a mature buck. Been taking the week off before gun season for the last 15 years or so.

Depends on if I get drawn for draw hunts. I find out then plan accordingly. I like first week of November and usually take that no matter what.

I also like to save a few days for late season. I love late season hunting.

Late season 2 years ago was awesome... Snow, cold and bean stubble equaled watching 50+ deer every evening from the blind.

This year will be much different.... Late river floods wiped out the neighboring bean fields so unless my brassica plots really draw in deer it might be a little tougher.

The best 5 days to hunt all day every year is Nov 4 thru the 8th. Nov 7th is the best day to hunt because more booner bucks have been shot on that one day than any other day. I say try to hunt as much as you can from Oct 27th thru Nov 12th. Just my opinion.

Interesting timing on this thread as I received the new Deer & Deer hunting today and it has it's yearly lunar rut predictions....

According to the article, November 1 through 10 are the days to hunt. It goes on to say that if they had to choose 4 days, it would be November 5-8.

Sounds about right to me.....

We take the first week of gun season. Dad has done this for 30 years and I have for the last 10. We have taken a few decent bucks over the years its more about family..

Season dates dictate my Indiana whitetail vacation will start October 30th. I'm usually back to work on Friday before the firearms opener.

Basically, I hunt the last two weeks of archery and clear off the farm right before the gun hunters show up. Depending on the year, I may bow hunt another state prior to Thanksgiving...but not this year. Spending the bulk of September chasing elk in Wyoming instead....starting this weekend!

Last week of Oct until gun for me. Good luck on the elk PAV. I'd like to pick your brain on elk sometime.

What stinks is that I cant get two weeks in a row...it would be a total of 18 days including days off...I have to split it. 9 days, back a week and then 9 days....screws up hunting the peak times big time.....still not sure on this seasons time frame.....I guess I could always split the 2nd vac. into smaller periods, 2 days here, and then 3 tacked on next to the days off... it stinks trying to figure it out....the window is small, you blink and the "rut" is over...

first world problems dude =)

You strike me as "glass half empty" type...

9 days in a row gets you some nice deer hunting, so long as you pick the right 9 days. Nov 5 to 12 is usually a sure bet as long as we get a nice cold snap or 2.

I'd do the first 9 days of Nov then plan for another week during late season when food is the #1 drive. I understand why guys hunt the dates in Nov but not very many plan for late season.

Lot of good bucks killed then.

My vacation plans are around Youth Season and draw hunts if I get drawn. I then may take a few days the first week of Nov and late Dec.
