I have friend that was diagnosed with ALS this summer at the age 30. He has went from being a little clumsy to in a wheel chair in less than a year. He has a dream of killing a deer. He tried to this year and it didn't work out. I'm looking for any information on a place where I can send him to hunt soon. Possibly a place with those computerized guns. At this point it may have to be an exotic and in a high fence. Any information would be greatly appreciated on places to go or people who would be interested in helping out. I know there are programs for children and veterans, but I'm trying to do more for him than dump a bucket of ice water on my head.

Check into the Crane handicapped hunt held in November.

JBwhitetail can give you the information you need. You could go and guide for your friend.

If you are simply looking to have the ability to shoot a deer, you might consider one of the high fence operations. I know that is a no no here on this site and in general from the standpoint of truly hunting, but if you are simply looking to put him in a position to kill a deer, you might find a site that would work with you on it. You can google such sites here in Indiana. I have no personal experience with those sites so I can't help in that regard.

Just so I'm clear. My friend won't be hunting next November and I personally wouldn't shoot a deer in fence, but this is one of those gray areas where I think it is ok. Not ideal but ok. The man wants to shoot a deer before he dies. I have to find a hunt now. Unless I can round up a special gun he wouldn't be able to pull the trigger himself now. They have machines that the handicap can bite or blow into; they fit most guns and I've found them new for around 300. I have no idea which type is the best, I was hoping to find someone with experience in hunting with extremely handicapped people. Just trying to give him an experience that he has always wanted. Despite trying, it won't be a wild deer at this point.

I have no idea as to what to tell you to do but from a preserve standpoint here in Indiana, you might reach out to Rodney Bruce and see if he can point you in a direction. He owns a preserve in southern Indiana and might be a resource for you.

If your friends dream is killing a deer and his time is short, I would not take him to a high fence operation. I would help him with his dream and my conscience would be clean, although by law I would be breaking it. Let the flaming begin.

While I never support the blatant disregard of the law, I can see this gentleman's point. The man with ALS may very well be dead by November.

I'd suggest trying to find a farmer with depredation permits.

I'll say this. Some of you guys ride mighty high on your white horses...... Life is not black and white. There's a **** of a lot of grey in life.

poaching is not the answer. Go to a high fence place if you must, Ohio is loaded with them and they shoot the deer year round in the pens. Just google it....
