If you are familiar with Microsoft Excel, this spreadsheet will show you the total deer kills per county and graph them (for those that like visuals).

NEW!!! You can now break each county down by Antlered, Antlerless, or Total harvest as well!!!

You can compare up to 5 counties at a time. I only went back to 2000 since that is the earliest I can find kills by county.

Each "County" Cell has a drop down box that will let you pick the County you want data for.

Yes I will update it when 2014 data is released.

Again the problem is the different areas we hunt. Here are the graphs for counties near me, but keep in mind there is also quite a bit of public land in this part of the state.

all this while Wabash county dropped by -515 from 2012-2013.....

Plain to see your area and my area need different strategies for deer harvest.

yea, that is what I'm afraid of..... a rise in kills then it will dive deeper than a nazi sub with a US destroyer over head.....

It's certainly easy to see what the trend is suggesting, but again, it there isn't a sense of how many deer there were to begin with, how many there might be now and what the overall deer density per acre of habitat and what the per hunter harvest average per year in those counties is, I'm just not sure it tells any expanded story beyond the harvest is doing down. For instance, the 500 acres that we now hunt, not all great habitat due to some large ag fields, in 2013 the other guys and us harvested a total of 7 deer. This year, after some discussion, we harvested a total of 3 deer. In a micro view, this would suggest our deer numbers were way down but that wasn't the case. Harvest numbers alone, when looked at by county, can swing one way and then the other as influences change, although I do believe the trend suggests lower numbers, but maybe not an issue if compared to other counties with different habitat structures and possibly even hunter behavior.

I suspect the only way to get some kind of a reasonably accurate head count on the number of deer in a given area would be to do some type of fly over count with aircraft when the snow is on?

Since nobody does that, I think you have to go with what the folks that are out there amongst the deer; landowners, hunters, etc. are saying?

With exception of urban and similar areas that are very difficult to gain hunting access to, bye and large I'm hearing numbers are down. Also hearing that the majority of hunters are disappointed with the population trend we've been seeing for several years.

I just looked at my county and the ones surrounding and including the one I hunt. Two are still trending up, two are pretty much stable and only one is on a slight decline.
