Hi All,
I have a question I would like to hear your input on. The thought and a discussion as come up among myself and close hunting buddies. When the rut is on, a doe walks by, you take a shot and drop her on the spot. There is still daylight left. Do you get down and field dress after waiting appropriate time (+\-30 minutes). Or do you stay in the stand/blind, using her as a natural buck lure hoping for a big boy to get her scent?
I have been taught that you should dress the game ASAP to avoid spoilage and contamination of meat. But this thought of using the downed doe as a natural lure has gotten me/us thinking. With all the scents used and bought is this better or disrespectful to the animal?
I wanted to see what your thoughts on this are.

In the rut it is usually cold enough that the meat will be fine. If its a hot doe, there will be a buck in close proximity! I have shot does before that didn't drop and ran off and when I found them there was a buck either bedded by her or close by. Unless its over 60 degrees you leave her. I shot 2 does this year on the 18th of November and 10 minutes later I shot a very nice 8 that was trying to get the first one to stand up. The meat will be fine.

Agree.

I have no issue ethically for leaving them lay for a while UNLESS there is a temperature issue.

4 years ago I dropped a doe about 35yrds from me on gun opener. 15 minutes later I turn to look at her and a nice 8pt is standing over her! Deer #2 down! He was definitely checking her out. You don't need to dress immediately when the temps are low like they usually are during gun season like TD said.
