In our quest for a big buck some of us almost turn this hobby of deer hunting into a job, myself included.

Had the son in law with us over the holiday weekend and he was really more about just getting a deer, so I changed my tune and we both shot nice does.

Had kind of forgotten how jacked up and excited "rookies" get about some basic success deer hunting. I had a great time as well, and we put some good meat in the freezer.

Nice reminder. Thanks for sharing your story.

For me the fun really begins at the kill. Processing meat, making jerky and sausage, and best of all eating deer meat is the best part. I love the hunt, don't get me wrong. But that's barely half of the equation.

iTS all fun just getting out, although his year has been very frustrating , i have only seen one in bow season just before legal time 1 small buck about 200 yds away & 2 small bucks opening day of firearm thats 4 total. Ton of trail cam pics. But i enjoy it so much ill never give up.

It's when luck & oppertunity meet

Well stated. If you want more proof - just follow Luke and Evan along on the youth hunt at CB Farms where a buck can't be taken. They could care less about bone. It is about the experience, the hunt, the friendships, and the discipline learned to pass and shoot a doe.

Good reminder.
