Terry,
Responses from legislators like Rep Cindy Kirchhoffer state they do not believe CWD is a threat to Indiana hunters or deer. Keep in mind the only testimony they heard were those vets promoting the industry. Our DNR never get to be heard

sadly, we have sat by and watched our legislators in office and their lobbyist for the industries in question i.e. shooting pens, from state to state, watched them turn our wild cervid and habitat there from, into a private livestock commodity, i.e. commerce. God put man in charge of the beast and what did man do, fenced them in, put a cow bell on the back of a truck at feeding time for the cervids to come to slaughter, and then call that hunting. that is not what i call it. yep, while the Texas deer czar dr. dough was off to Wisconsin pushing the privately owned shooting pen industry (livestock cervids industry), Texas fell to CWD, and Texas just reported 4 more CWD postives. ... for your information... According to Wisconsin’s White-Tailed Deer Trustee Dr. James Kroll, people who call for more public hunting opportunities are “pining for socialism.” He further states, “(Public) Game management is the last bastion of communism.” “Game Management,” says James Kroll, driving to his high-fenced, two-hundred-acre spread near Nacogdoches, “is the last bastion of communism.” Kroll, also known as Dr. Deer, is the director of the Forestry Resources Institute of Texas at Stephen F. Austin State University, and the “management” he is referring to is the sort practiced by the State of Texas. The 55-year-old Kroll is the leading light in the field of private deer management as a means to add value to the land. His belief is so absolute that some detractors refer to him as Dr. Dough, implying that his eye is on the bottom line more than on the natural world. Kroll, who has been the foremost proponent of deer ranching in Texas for more than thirty years, doesn’t mind the controversy and certainly doesn’t fade in the heat. People who call for more public lands are “cocktail conservationists,” he says, who are really pining for socialism. He calls national parks “wildlife ghettos” and flatly accuses the government of gross mismanagement. He argues that his relatively tiny acreage, marked by eight-foot fences and posted signs warning off would-be poachers, is a better model for keeping what’s natural natural while making money off the land. Interesting situation with Dr. Kroll. It's a fine line between trophy management, private enterprise and venture capitalists. To suggest that public areas are ghettos is an interesting twist and one that some might suggest only an elite oriented person would take. It's all a matter of perspective and everyone is entitled to their perspective. However, in the end analysis, it is always interesting to follow a money trail and see who is in it from a theory, ethical and virtuous standpoint and who is in it for money and self interest. Don't really know which one Dr. Kroll is in it for specifically, but I imagine each can make a thorough assessment on their own based upon impression and facts.

The bill as amended plus new amendments has passed second reading in the House and ordered to engrossment.
It's now up to Senator Long to kill it.

This is the reply I received after I sent an e-mail to the Gov. Dear Mr. Kelso, Thank you for your letter to Governor Pence. He appreciates the time you took to express your views. I apologize for not being able to respond to your email sooner. Senate Bill 487, shooting and hunting preserves was not passed by the Indiana General Assembly and therefore was not sent to the governor's desk for consideration. The 2013 Bill Watch on the governor's website has been established. All legislation that has been sent to the governor's office for consideration can be viewed at http://www.in.gov/gov/billwatch.htm. Please be assured that Governor Pence monitors all legislation closely as it proceeds through the legislative process and will thoroughly review all bills that are brought to him for his signature. Thank you for contacting Governor Pence and for being an engaged citizen. Sincerely, Kristen Kane Constituent Services Representative Office of the Governor

Don't let them fool you....... Pence was ready to allow deer shooting preseves! the Governor has REFUSED to meet with sportsmen groups before the election or after.
Rob Carter(IDNR Director) was not confirmed after the election so he sought "other" employment. Now after his resignation, in which he agreed to stay until a replacement was named, he still is waiting.
IMO....... Governor Pence has little regard for the Division of Natural Resources!
This comes from a staunch Republican voter!

there's a part of me that cant blame the Governor for not wanting to talk to the sportsmens groups after all the BS, name calling, whining and crying the past couple years over new deer regs. Many acted like spoiled little two year olds when they didnt get their way.
bottom line, if you want to beat this you HAVE to get the cattlemen on your side and vocal. IMHO

There are also some who are questioning whether Pence is really even interested in serving long as governor, or just using the seat as a waypoint to a run for President in 2016. I didn't agree with a lot of things Mitch did, but at least it seemed he was paying attention to what the issues were...

OK I'll say it since nobody else will...
The problem isnt ALL the elected fault.. ( though I do agree they aren't much help either)
The problem is the complacency of Joe sportsman.. sure a few of us on this site and others try their best but by percentage we don't add up to much when compared to the overall number of hunters there are in the state... the occasional email isn't going to do much either.. The trick is to make it a non hunting issue and get local and state media to get on board.. state wide!
