The farm i have been so fortunate to hunt the last three seasons, from what I am told, is going to auction early next year. Pretty bummed. Its nothing to see 10+ deer an outing on this awesome piece of property.
At this point, the farm is listed for sale and has been but I learned tonight that it will be sold if no one takes it! Sure wish I had the ability but no way possible.
I am thinking that when it sells, it will be to a deer hunter, good for nothing else!
Guess I start my look now to replace it with something that will probably never compare to this place!

I feel your pain. Same thing happened to me. I also refuse the lease. Hunt a lot of patch woods now and killed my first pope n young few years ago. So don't overlook the 4-5 acre spots. Just have to wait on rut and wind. Good luck!

I wish TrapperDave! Not going to happen for me for a long time I'm afraid. I have another small farm but not near the quality I am going to lose! 110 acres + of woods is hard to find these days up where I'm at!

Sorry to hear this. I have a saying when it comes to good hunting areas..."They are as fragile as glass". Sold, leased, family starts to hunt....etc, etc Even when you own it....still "fragile as glass" if neighbors get dogs, a new ATV to roar around on your property boundaries, or the guy next door you butt up against that used to allow "no hunting" next to you....all of the sudden sells, leases or finally allows his 6 family members that have been begging for years to hunt. It's all "fragile as glass". That is why years ago I vowed I will never have just one property to hunt. It's "glass insurance"...

B&D, sorry this has happened to you, same thing happened to me a few years ago when I lost the best hunting land around. I had hunted this place for well over 20 years and then it was sold. Fortunately I was able to buy a place down south and then some more that attached to my land a few years later and hopefully next April more land plus a house that connects to mine. Now after 7 years of management it is almost as good as the place I lost.
So... I guess what I am trying to say is, keep your head up because I am sure things will work out for you.
And Dew, I couldn't agree more with you about your take on owning land, it is "fragile as glass"
Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.

So far we have really enjoyed the lease. I know it isn't the ideal situation but I think if you can build a good relationship it's almost as good as owning.
