Anybody have any thoughts about how the cold this weekend will effect the deer? It's been a long time since I've seen it this cold on opening weekend of firearms.

Cold Weather = Great Deer Movement, my experience. I'm looking forward to it...

Love it. Bring in the cold and here's hoping for some early season snow.

I don't buy all that the colder the better deer movement talk...In all my years of hunting I have seen more deer movement when temps were between 40 to 60 degrees then when it is under 40 degrees....

And I hunt in many areas of the state and the results are always the same... IMO, temps in the 40's to 50's is the best hunting weather...

Bring on the cold weather. I'll be in the woods starting Thursday for over a week. I love it I hate sweating while hunting.

I would agree. When it's really cold though, like single digits or teens, they hit the food earlier though which can make for some great late season hunting.

Pull out the bibs and layers! Going to be cold which should mean things are moving, crunchy leaves and you can hear them coming!!!

The arrival of a cold front means the barometric pressure will be dropping steadily. Low pressure combined with cooler temps will definitely put deer on their feet. Once the front arrives, the BP will begin to rise...and the best window of opportunity has passed.

Deer wear fur coats 24/7, they aren't as comfortable in the higher temps and tend to exert themselves less.

There are exceptions to everything, but typically they are more active when temps get to 30's and lower.

Extreme cold temps (zero and colder) may cause them to bed more to conserve energy.

You're RIGHT John!

Killed my biggest buck ever a few years back when it got down around 20 over night...told my son the weekend warriors will be in there 2 hours before daylight and be frozen solid by 8:30 am. Worked like a charm! Killed a 150" buck at 8:45
