I recently heard another disturbing story of a hunter accident which left the hunter permanently disabled.

Does anyone take out hunter insurance? What does it cover?

I have a wife and three kids that I support and can not afford an accident that would impact my ability to work. My current work situation will not provide disability or any type of income if I can not work.

Does anyone know the best way to make sure I am covered in case of an accident?

Yeah, I wear a safety harness. I use a climber 80% of the time and make sure I am connected to the tree 100% of the time. Accidents do happen and I can not afford for an accident to happen to my family. I am just looking for some added type of protection of income if it exist.

I'm pretty sure that companies like Aflac provide short term disability polices.

Perhaps someone on here is an agent or has direct experience with these types of polices and can direct you to a person or company who can help you.

Short term and long term disability insurance covers almost everything, with a few exceptions.

You can buy hunting lease insurance that covers and protects all parties. You need to have a written agreement with the landowner if you are hunting private ground. The policy is affordable and does exactly what you want it to do.

PM me if you have any other questions. This is the company that I work for. Hunting insurance is pour main focus.

As an insurance agent I can tell you that you might have an option to extend some liability from your homeowners policy. But I would highly recommend a lease insurance policy. We got one this year and it's normally based on the acreage but it's very inexpensive based on the coverage that you get. This is a great way to protect not only you but also the land owner.

I hunt properties owned by 4 different landowners,

I don't lease any of them and don't plan to go buy a policy for each property.

I have a 2 part "insurance policy"

lifelines and climbing stand rope system

GPD005,
what do you recommend as far as life insurance based on salary? 4 to 5X annual salary in the right range?

If the company you work for provides Long Term Disability insurance then I would suggest looking into it...

I pay less then $10 a month for mine and it provides me up to 12 weeks pay...

Brew, I think ferb55 might be able to answer this a little better than I. But we were mainly concerned with the liability. I don't want myself or one of my partners on the lease to get hurt and try to go after the landowner. The lease insurance helps prevent that. And while I appreciate everyone saying that you wear safety harnesses (everyone should) an additional blanket of protection is a great thing to be able to offer a land owner. The guy we lease from really liked the idea of it so if you are able to do that and offer both parties protection I think it's a win win for everyone and hopefully we never have to worry about using it!
