I see this year's emailed deer hunter survey has a lot of questions about drone usage to assist in tracking deer after the shot. And several questions about the use of cellular trail cameras. Not sure what they're considering, but I personally see no need to add more regulation. Any thoughts?

Cell camera or any camera save more deer than the kill!

If there is proof of a negative impact on deer from cell cameras then yes restrict them but I don’t see it.

are they gonna OK making drone deer recovery a business ? .... what about scouting ? ... Private lands vs public ? .... as for cams, I hunt state lands and cell cams/reg. cams are popping up like crazy where I'm at ...Ive used regular cams from time to time, but I'm always afraid of theft (even when place 12 ft in a tree).. I'll put one up and just let it go for the season or a couple of months between checking it .... I really dont use one for 'scouting", I just like to see what is on the pics, I dont leave them out all year either .. I wouldnt mind seeing all cams become illegal on state lands, would not effect me nor the way I hunt one bit ... I filled out the questionnaire ...

I see nothing there saying only on Private, not public ... personally, I dont like the idea of it ... it will be abused I'm sure if it passes ... fair chase has went out the window, so has learning to track/woodmanship .. "hey Billybob, dont forget the drone, so we wont have to track" .... "hey Billybob, look at all those deer over on the Jones' place, to bad they dont allow hunting... hey, there's our deer, lets sneak in and grab it while its dark" .....................

If they’re(cell camera also)made legal it shouldn’t matter if it’s public or private…. Very small percentage of deer are killed on public land! Actually folks hunting public need the most help!

cams are legal now on state lands, on the F&W area I hunt, there are signs up at the check in station that says all cams must have name or cust. # on 'em .... Id rather have guys leave cams out than their f'n tree stands all year .... found another ladder/portable still up and a cell cam overlooking 'their' spot this past Fri. ... stands were supposed to be removed by Jan. 10th .. I have now found 6 ladders/1 portable that are still up on the place and the property mgr. could care less about 'em .... THAT is why these guys know they can get away with leaving them up, nothing is done even when the gps location and pics are given to the office/property mgr. ....

I understand from talking to the IBA legislative chairman that there's a bill working through the Indiana legislature with respect to the use of drones for finding lost deer or other game. As far as the survey questions on cams and drones that were placed in the survey, I'm told it is Mr Caudill doing his due diligence to try and get advance input from the state's hunters, in case it is needed in the future.

when will the results be avail. .. anyone know ? .. .... I loved using regular cams when I had private, still have 9 and one unused NIB cheapie 'cell cam' I may never use.. I used cams when they were the old 35mm D battery monstrosities .. Ive used 'em (reg. sd card cam) sparingly on the state lands, Im more worried about theft and them getting messed with, and I set them 12ft or so up .... I dont really use 'em to scout, I may go two months before I even get back to 'em.. I just enjoy the pics .. that all said, I had two out this past season, got some decent pics, one spot that was hot 2 yrs back was much slower this year .. I am seeing more and more cams and esp. the 'cell' type on the place. I probably wont use any at all this coming season, less to worry about and think about on public. .. no one likes to lose a deer ... I say learn to track and/or use a good tracking dog ...

The results maybe posted later this year but that won’t change anything
The results should show how many use cameras and where they use them….. much to do about nothing IMO They save more deer then they kill !

The Drone bill is about to pass easily in legislation… personally I can’t see cameras be not allowed with Drones with thermal imaging being legal

its the 'drones' that worry me more, esp state lands/waterfowl resting areas, preserves, State Parks(?) Federal and State forests/lands, night use, etc ? ... Regulation/laws or free for all ?? ......

I don't know how the bill is worded for drones, but should state that they can only be used to help recover animals after the shot and for no other hunting purpose. I'd think that way it should be pretty rare you'd ever see one. We have the same kind of rule for using dogs to find lost deer.
