This guy tried sneaking through about 15 minutes after shooting time opening morning. The crunchy leaves gave him away laugh

[Linked Image]

Craziest thing is I shot him at 35-ish yards, he ran 80-100 and piled up. Absolutely ZERO blood! The only way I tracked him was a general idea of which direction he went, some kicked up leaves, and some instinct. Even where he expired there was no blood. Good shot placement with a pass through. The entry hole looked like a hole punch made it and the exit wasn't much bigger. The bullet did nice internal damage but that doesn't help me find a blood trail! The bullet didn't appear to mushroom out at all. Shooting PowerBelt HollowPoint Copper-Plated. I previously shot the PowerBelt Aerotip and had similar issues. I had hoped the hollow point would've expanded easier. I've tried the Shockwave's before. A friend likes the performance he gets from the Remington AccuTip. Another friend keeps it simple with the Thompson/Center Cheap Shot Sabot (simple lead hollow point). Either way, I think I need to try a different bullet.

Either way, good luck to everyone. I'm surprised that it's Monday morning following the opening weekend and there aren't more posts. Certainly I'm not the only hunter that shot a deer. Come on everyone, post your success cool

Didn't make it out for the first time since I was 7. I never liked power belts dad shot a few and never got a blood trail. I shot shockwaves for a long time and loved em. I now shoot Barnes expanders best ml bullet out there imo. Good holes and blood trails

Huntin is not a matter of life and death, its more important than that

Congrats man, that's a pretty buck!

I already filled my Indiana tag in October, but I had also drawn an Iowa archery license. Their gun season won't start until Dec 5th.

I made the trip up there on Thursday, and shot this one Saturday with a bow.

Iowa bucks have big bodies!

Hello, this is straight from the Indiana DNR website regarding cartridges legal to use on state lands. The 350 Legend has a case length of 1.71 inches and is shown as approved.

Equipment on Public Land

Rifle cartridges for Public Lands (state and federal property) must meet the following requirements:

Fire a bullet of .357-inch diameter or larger,
Have a minimum case length of 1.16 inches, and
Have a maximum case length of 1.8 inches
These cartridges are legal to use only during the deer firearms, youth, reduction zones from Nov. 14, 2020 - Jan. 31, 2021 (in zones where local ordinances allow the use of a firearm), and special antlerless seasons (where open).

Some cartridges legal for deer hunting on public include the .350 Legend, .357 Magnum, .38-.40 Winchester, .41 Magnum, .41 Special, .44 Magnum, .44 Special, .44-.40 Winchester, .45 Colt, .454 Casull, .458 SOCOM, .475 Linebaugh, .480 Ruger, .50 Action Express, .500 S&W, .460 Smith & Wesson, .450 Bushmaster, and .50 Beowulf. Full metal jacketed bullets are illegal.

Thanks everyone.

Jeff, its a single shot CVA Hunter model. Those FTX rounds are hammers when it comes to deer.

I believe this was the best shot I have made on a deer to date. Other than the 400 yard "sniper" shot I made with a .257 Weatherby on a Colorado Mule deer a few years ago.

I was hunting the edge of a picked bean field. At about 5:00 pm, this buck came up on my left, on about my 10:00 and was walking toward me. I didn't see him until he was about 30 away because of the pine tree I was standing behind. I had made a little ground blind out of the downed pine limbs. When I seen him I raised the gun and cocked it at the same time. He seen the movement and bolted to his left, my right, and was quartering away from me and was getting with it. I was able to get the scope on his shoulder when he was about 50 yard away and pulled the trigger. He ran another 50 yards and nose dived into the ground.

During the field dressing, I found that my shot had taken out the top part of his heart and the bottom of his lungs. Blessed for sure!!!!

Looks like the Hunter is discontinued for 2020 their site says... it is replaced with The Scout, and it is available in .350 Legend and even 450 Bushmaster, among others.... didnt see the .35 Rem. avail. however .. I like single shots ...

Between the 350 Legend or the 450 Bushmaster, I'd go with the 450 Bushmaster.

Just for information, the Mossberg Patriot is available in a bolt action design chambered in 350 Legend in several variations. I just purchased this model for a very reasonable price at Sportsman's Outdoor Superstore; https://www.sportsmansoutdoorsuperstore.com/products2.cfm/ID/254216.

Thanks, when I get the lower jaw back I will age it and see what his age is. I have a feeling he might be up in age.

Caught this guy walking through at 11:30 a.m. I have shot 3 nice bucks on this property. All three were between 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Stay as late as I can and I long as I can. My hunting buddy had gotten down and went back to camp 45 minutes before this guy showed up.

Would love to see the pic. For it to display here, you'd need to change it to a "public" file on your Google Drive. Or simply upload the picture onto this site. To do that, click "Use Full Editor" then "attachment manager".
