The local archery shop is booming like there's no tomorrow. Out of stock on most of the good stuff and back-ordered. Unprecedented, and maybe an indication of people having so little else to do, so they'll just go hunting. Kinda the way spring turkey season went.

The archery industry as a whole is booming right now. Record sales levels with most companies. Manufacturers are many weeks behind in shipping products due to both supply chain delays from Covid and the huge spending uptic that has been happening this year. The spending does not make sense, but it is happening across the board in most sectors. The archery industry in particular needed this sales boost.

Maybe seeing the meat supply chain is not so stable as we thought and hunting your own protein is a real option. Good way to get away from the crowds too. Has to be all good for the archery industry
I'll get out Fri. afternoon and maybe Sat, afternoon 58/42 Thur. ... 53/34 Friday ... 57/42 Sat ,,Tad warmer Sun (I work) 61/42 ...suppose to be a Full Moon, the only draw back
Got out Friday PM.. had a 7 pt, 4 pt fork horn and a 110"ish 9 pt come by at various times .. was a good sit ... sat out today (Sat.) didnt see nothin' .... two different locations for the wind ... raining now and warming this week, going to mid to high 70's next week/weekend .. I wont go out in the heat ...
My complaint.. this is THE worse season up to this point that I can remember that Ive had 39 yrs deer hunting .... I'm glad some have killed some nice critters, but its been tough for me ... I guess I really shouldnt complain, Ive had some good years on the state area(s) Ive hunted and killed some good deer... ... the pressure has been unbelieveable on the place this season.. guys setting up by me, got pics of them walking ON DEER TRAILS and thru funnels, hunting trees that are absolutely wrong for that spot as was the wind on that day ...then the funnel/bottleneck goes dead !! ... never had this out there before ... this is what high pressure F&W areas are like ... I'll post pics later of 'em if I can get them to size ...
Ive seen buck's and Does, had 5 small bucks within 20 yds, to small for me, same for Does/fawns... I refuse to kill small baby deer, so I pass and enjoy the show ....,... right now, I'd be happy with a 1.5yr old doe .... the season aint over yet, so I'll keep at it and I refuse to give up ....
at least they were kind enough not to mess with the cam (locked/cabled in and camo'd) .... where they walked is a conjunction of trails going thru a funnel on the edge of a marsh, they are right on the trails !!.. one is putting out 'scent' (nothing came near it btw) .. this can ONLY be hunted with e/ne- n/ne winds ... they were there with sw/s winds and a nw west wind on those days blowing right into where the deer come from ... plus the tree they used (climber) was just 3 yds from 2 of the main trails... pretty much they were right on the trails !! ... smh ... I got some good buck pics prior to these guys ruining the spot.. nothing after !! ... Ive since pulled the cam out of caution .. thus are the perils of hunting 'public lands' .... this is one mile in from the nearest parking lot ... another day I had a guy come in and set up 150 yds from me.. at 3:30 in the afternoon !!... for years I kinda had this place to myself, then BAM, the whole area has guys back in it .. time to find another 'secluded' spot (is there such a thing on state lands ...lol)... ;0(

Public land hunting seems to be booming now with some extra attention from youtube shows...more guys with time on their hands and lots of other stuff closed down too. License sales and harvest way up. 2020 looks be on track for a record year for deer like it was for turkey
the NE portion of the state is kickin' butt !! ... those 4 counties in the corner have always had a good deer population .. Stuben Co. is already at 2716 killed, last season they had 2756 total ... heck, there is still a tad over 3 weeks to go too ...
I live up here in Steuben County. The overall numbers this year seemed down for me while on stand. I probably put in 40 or so sits this year. But most were 60-90 minute sits. I think I only sat more than 2 hours 3 or 4 times. So while I hunted a lot, I didn't actually put in a lot of tree time overall. I would say that I actually saw a deer on 2/3 of my sits, which is way down for me. I would say that I saw 2 or 3 deer on maybe 8 or 9 of those hunts. I only saw more than 3 deer on two sits that I recall. The volume of deer on trail cams has been down all year too. I am not complaining, I killed a nice reduction zone doe and two very nice bucks (one reduction zone). But all in all, it was slim pickings. On my farm that I own, my daughters and I have not killed a doe off of it in 6 years. I kill one doe a year off of my other farm that I hunt. I focus on bucks beyond that. Numbers are down, way down. We were a 4 bonus county for a few years and it put a real dent in the numbers.
Our county has hammered them hard for too long.

it looks like it is being 'hammered' again this year then .... I think the kill there is the 2nd highest in the state so far this season, Noble is slightly ahead

Yeah, I saw that. Funny thing is when I talk to most guys they report the same thing. Deer sightings are way down.
But I will say that over the past week or so my trail cams have blown up with photos of deer. Not sure where they were all hiding, but I bet I have gotten more pictures in the past week than I got in the past month. I had one night on one of my cell cams that over 200 photos were sent to me.

Real time reported deer harvest on December 28 at 6:32 am CST
119,228
Harvest numbers are updated as deer are checked in via CheckIN Game. Numbers are raw data that have not been verified by Indiana DNR. https://www.in.gov/dnr/fishwild/8367.htm
Look like we will pass 120,000 soon

no "record" but will very close to the 2015 season right now, slightly up over that ... Noble country is two deer away from 3K right now !! ... Stuben isnt that far behind .... my county Porter is having a good season, better than the last 5 yrs ... antlerless is slightly up, buck the best buck kill in a long time, I always wonder how many of those were dinks/1.5yr olds and what age class the rest are ... 20 hunt days and I never saw a true shooter on two different state areas ... I'd like to know just how many deer tags were sold and how many hunters went out for deer... that in itself should be a record, esp. with all the guys out of work ....
well, I have been working 24 days straight (since the 6th), no days off, and several doubles, working a 16 tonight .. my deer season went out the window back on the 5th/last day off .. havnt had time since .. no end in sight for me and work . ..
for sure more people out there this season .... I saw the pressure on the F&W areas up here ... it was stupid with the number of guys screwing things up, worse than normal ... One of the better seasons in the last several for the State ... the worst one ever for myself, but I pass 1.5 yr old dinks and fawns and wont kill one just to fill a tag ... still, I never saw what I would consider a true shooter for me even though I would have killed that 7 pt, and with my season being cut short (work related), I'll never know what could have been for the last 30 days .... well, there is always 'next season' ... lol ... ... I'll wait for the summary and see how those places actually did and what the age class of the deer killed state wide was ... congrats to those who took a deer this past season ...
