My October has been very busy, hunted one weekend. Spent the last week in Florida and have to move this weekend. Will however be out in the woods November 1-10. Living thru you guys until then. How is the season going??

Got a trail cam picture on the 20th of a mature buck striding along with his mouth hanging open. Based on the spot, that's a sign that some rut activity is already starting to happen. Should only get better & better from here on out.

So the Rut is on. Time for me to stay out of the Woods. When I was a young kid in Cub Scouts we went on a fall camping trip. I didn't have a real sleeping bag back then. So I pined two blankets together with some safety pins. That didn't work. I was inside a Pup Tent that the scout leader provided to the kids. But I was freezing to death that night with snow on the ground. I got up and went up to the shelter where the scout leader men had a big fire going in the fireplace of the shelter. I slept next to the fire with my two blankets for the rest of the night. To heck with sleeping in that Cold Pup Tent. I didn't sign up for that. That afternoon a big male whitetail deer came into the camp and was in Rut. Everyone had to climb up in the pine trees to get away from that crazy deer. Male deer get really crazy when they go into rut.

My cams showed deer activity picked up a lot in the last week. Ive got mock scrapes with cams on them and bigger bucks started showing up last Friday and using the scrape. Since sunday the doe activity in the scrapes has increased and several different doe at one time. They too are using the scrapes. The biggest buck I have on cam showed up at 2:30am.... already nocturnal. I will check cams again Friday and most likely start sitting this weekend. Maybe I can kill a big one with my crossbow. Big boys are on the moving. h.h.

Still no real "chasing" going on yet on my 300 acres in Hendricks Co... at least during daylight.

Got a 2nd buck tag needing filled... but he will have to be 160+ for me to bust another!

I have not seen any rut activity here in Perry Co. actually I have not been seeing many deer either. Biggest deer I have seen so far after 24 sits was a 115 inch 8pt. Very discouraging. The weather is perfect but just not much going on.

17 degrees/clear/nw 2-7mph at sunrise, had 3 small bucks come by ... I waved ...lol ...one was following a nice Doe, seen 2 other small bucks by themselves... I was at full draw on the big Doe, but she went thru the lane fast once the 7 pt pushed her, so no shot offered ( 35 yds )... .... .... 6 other various does/fawns, no bucks following ..... it was a good morning .... I'm sitting out tomorrow, and will hit it again for a good Doe Sun. afternoon and Mon (maybe) ... I'm on my 9 day vacation now ..... I'll pick/choose the days I'll sit, I still have to take care of leaves at the house ;0( ...... . got a pot of Chilli going now from the buck I got back on the 25th-Oct. ... mmmmm ... no rush to fill my remaining tag ..

Ha...... NOT ME!
I probably would have been, but I calmed that "urge" already! LOL
I will be back out this weekend looking for a 160+..... or something super freaky that strikes my fancy! 😁

Not many deer down here in SW Indiana, Saw some movement opening gun morning but that could have been from hunting pressure. I have yet to see any chasing going on. Just too few of deer I guess.
Going again in the morning supposed to be warmer before it starts raining. wink

My rut was Nov 14. Game cams showed many deer visits that night..every ten to fifteen minutes all night long. Ive seen a lot of deer but no shooter bucks for my standards. Saw 9 doe Tue. evening eating in my food plot and no buck came in the hour they were there....1st rut is over here. Second rut and a better chance for a big buck will be around muzzleloader opening weekend. Good luck to all hunters....h.h.
