Our tree is loaded as usual. Anyone have any recipes to use these things in?

Had a lady from Lafayette tell me last week that she fixes them in a pie with a lot of sugar and other types of spices and that they taste great. I don't know though, I've always been a little suspicious of mulberries. If you try it, please let all of us know because I could pick a ton of mulberries and never get a chigger bite!

Heck w/ the pies..............I could eat them things by the gallon off the tree! Not as good as blackberries but better than rasberries.

If they were poison then I'd been dead 40 years ago!............I love them.

My wife made a cobbler with them tonight and it was great. I'll try to get her to type in the recipe.

Mulberry Cobbler

Add 1/2 cup of water and 1 cup of sugar to 2 cups of washed and drained mulberries in a small saucepan. Cook until berries are soft and mostly juice. Stir in 1/4 cup of flour to thicken slightly. Add an additional 1 to 1 and 1/2 cups of berries and stir. Remove from heat and set aside.
Melt 1 stick of butter or margerine in baking dish. Add the following: 1 C. flour, 1 C. sugar, 2 tsp baking powder, 3/4 C milk, 1/4 tsp salt. Mix well until all lumps are gone.
Dump the berry mixture on top, but don't stir it in. Bake for 1 hour at 350. Serve with ice cream, milk, or whipped topping if desired. This is the basic cobbler recipe that I use. You can use other berries or if berries aren't available, use a can of pie filling.

It's listed as a 3 minute cobbler and is real easy. Let me know how it turns out for you.

I used almost the same recipe yesterday to make a rasberry cobbler from some berries I picked yesterday...............can't beat it!!!!

I am going to get some mulberries tomorrow morning while we're also picking a last bunch of raspberries to try it. Man, I think you guys are goofy with the mulberries, but maybe not. Hut, they are talking about the one's on the trees. Dang things are everywhere! We used to use them to catch carp in the Eel and Wabash rivers around Logansport.

Cut a few open first and look for "movement" before eating.

Or maybe the added protein would be a bonus?

I picked a gallon of mulberries this evening........I probably ate a half gallon while pickin 'em! Mulberry cobbler tomarrow!!!

I went out this morning and collected 7 quarts in about 15 minutes. Put a tarp under the tree and "jar " the limbs with a long pole. The ripe ones fall off and then funnel the mulberries off the tarp and into a bucket. No chiggers, thorns,or falling out of the tree. It does take a little while to wash the berries and take out the stray twigs and leaves. Saw BOWBO on another thread. Those muffins looked good.

I love them but they.do tend to clense my colon if I eat to many...

Mulberry recipes are all over the internet now. We had very few this year thanks to the late frost. it's a good thing we froze several quarts last year.

WE made jelly last year a few pies. We like em at our house and have 3 trees.
