Get outdoors at the Indiana State Fair
In between the cattle barns, elephant ears and rides on the midway, experience Indiana's outdoors at the Natural Resources building of the Indiana State Fair.
Catch a glimpse of the State Fair fish aquariums, take a trolley ride throughout the historic fairground buildings or sample wild fish and game at the "Taste of the Wild" cookout.

Kids - Fish at the Indiana State Fair!
Take the kids to the Fishin' Pond, presented by Veolia Water, located in the back of the Natural Resources building. Kids ages 5-16 can fish at the pond in a fun, safe environment.

Volunteers will help the kids catch fish from 9 a.m. - noon and 4 - 7 p.m. daily (no morning session will be held on Aug. 11). Pre-registration is required up to an hour before each session. Tables for arts and crafts projects will also be available during those times.

Mother Nature's Mercantile celebrates the outdoors
Mother Nature's Mercantile celebrates Indiana nature with educational, fun gifts for all. Find great gifts including framed butterfly specimens, life-size plush animals for the kids and clothing galore. From Indiana-constructed rocking chairs and furniture to cane fishing poles, Mother Nature's Mercantile offers an outdoor shopping bonanza.

Visit us at the Indiana State Fair in the back of the Natural Resources building.


Boat and sail without getting your feet wet
Join us at the Fishin' Pond, presented by Veolia Water, and become the captain of your own boat - a remote control boat. The Indianapolis Admirals, a remote control boat club, will be at the Natural Resources building at the Indiana State Fair demonstrating a variety of remote control boats from sailboats to warships. Extra boats will also be available for anyone wanting to drive a remote control boat.
This event is open to anyone from beginner level to elite, Aug. 11-12, at 7:15 p.m.



Indiana State Museum at the fair
Learn about the Indiana State Museum (ISM), its exhibits and events at the ISM booth in the Natural Resources building at the Indiana State Fair. Find demonstrations and activities on Paleo-Indian life, Ice Age animals, animal adaptations, flint knapping, and performances by the Legacy Theater Troupe.
Also, stop by the ISM booth and receive coupons for two children’s admissions to the ISM with every regularly priced admission.

Snakes, raptors, singing, games and more ...
Come see programs on everything from live snakes to interactive games, hosted by the Indiana DNR. Programs take place on the front porch, at the 150-seat amphitheater or with the Roving Naturalist of the Natural Resources building.
Some of the programs featured at the fair include:

Snakes Alive Talk - Every day, Amphitheater, 10 a.m. (no morning session on Aug. 17)
Indiana Owls - Aug. 8, Front Porch, 2-4 p.m.
Flint Knapping - Aug. 11, Front Porch, 2-4 p.m.
Foster Brown Songs and Stories with s'mores (with nationally recognized children and nature musician Foster Brown) - Aug. 11, Amphitheater, 7 p.m.
The Art of Falconry - Aug. 13, Amphitheater, 4:30 p.m.
Ice Age Animals - Aug. 15, Roving Naturalist, 11 a.m - 2 p.m.
Pioneer Games - Aug. 17, Amphitheater, 7 p.m.
Water Dog Retrieving - Aug. 18, Fishin' Pond, 7 p.m.
