I use to coon hunt out of a 81 Chevy Chevette. I would fold the backseat down and the dogs would ride in the back. The only drawback was the dogs would lick me and breath on me when I was driving plus every once in a while they would let off a nasty fart. The dogs did not care if they were in a truck or a Chevette. Coon hides were bringing top money in the 80's.

Heck I went hunting alot driving an Olds Alero....

Cousin of mine hunted with a guy who hunted out of his Lexus. The looks they got with deer in the back were priceless.

My brothers and I used to deer hunt in a 91 camaro . That used to get lots of looks also. I wouldn't know what to do without a pick up now.

Ok ok I'll join in all the reindeer games. I used to haul deer and turkeys in my old jeep wagoneer. I know that's not very impressive but I did use a ford windstar a time or two! Regardless of how you get in and out, get out and enjoy muzzle loader season. It's probably my favorite time in the deer woods.

Reminds me of a hunt at Camp Atterbury back in the late 60's. Back then most of the roads at Atterbury were dirt roads. The day we went was freezing rain. The roads were terrible. I did most of my hunting back then out of an old Ford Pinto station wagon. My hunting buddy that day had a new 4x4 truck. He said, I better drive we will never make it in the Pinto. We slipped and slid all the way back to area 4, When we got there I busted out laughing. Some other hunter had beat us to our spot driving a Ford Pinto. LOL

I used to trap out of a 1967 Impala back in my high school days.....I owned a 2 wheel drive Ford f150 truck once....once .....got that thing stuck so many times....even on wet grass one morning while squirrel hunting at J/P....it was then I said never again....While I have got my 4x4 stuck more than once(not as many as the f150), it does allow me to get back into spots no one could with a car.....pinto or not....lol....

Double D - I used to hunt out of a "Hunter Green" Windstar. I'd take the back seats out and sleep in it. Loved that piece of crap Until I totaled it in front of Methodist Hospital in a head on collision (my fault).

Shelby - I had a Pinto Sport Wagon - bright orange with racing stripes and bubble window in the back. It was the first car I made payments on. I'd put my hunting clothes in the back and they'd stink like gas as the tank had a leak. My wife (girlfriend at the time) and i had more than one set of clothes end up smelling like gas if I remember right. I loved that piece of crap until I totalled it in front of Greenwood Mall on Valentine's day (not my fault - t-boned by a Caddy.

OK, back to muzzleloading. Forgive the digression.

I use to put my deer in the back of my 97 Saturn SL1. You should have seen the looks I got waiting in line at the local Amish processor, especially when I pulled a 190 lb field dressed buck out of it a few years ago. Those back seats fold down and give you a lot of room. That and 36 mpg sure does make it hard to jump into a full size truck for a long hunting trip.

Hello I'm new to the site been reading every one thooughts & accomplishment. Just wandering if any of you are hunt tippicanoe count or clinton county? wandering if you have been seeing the deer that you normally have. I have not hunted for about 4 years due to an injury but got back in the woods this year & just havent seen the deer im used to just wandering if everyone is the same

I hunt in Tippecanoe county. I saw about as many as years past.

I was done well before gun season though. From what I heard, the harvest is down quite a bit in gun season. EHD hit this area hard the past couple years, I did not hunt one farm for one entire year to let numbers recover.

I hunt out at Granville Bridge didnt get started until the last week before firearm opener. Seen a 8 pt & doe the first hunt. but have only seen 3 doe since then. havent been out but once since muzzy season started . plan on sunday hope it picked up this week .got a stand that i havent been in yet due to the wind direction but seen plenty of good buck sign the day before firearm ended. Hopefully i can get in it sunday. maybe we can meet up sometime & swap stories. I have not hunted this area since 2000. I had land over in Kramer until it was leased out for a huge amount of $$$

Was out Sunday from noon till dark had a mature doe 150yds at 5:50 2 min until the end off shooting light let her walk. No pi s on the two trail cams out in the last week. Next weekend is another day always thank god for another day on earth never no what might happen. Good luck to everyone else

We took a good heavy 10point and a doe off our farm this weekend in miserable hunting conditions. On friday I sat and watched a mature doe and two fawns feed, the doe never gave me a broadside shot. at dusk a 4 pointer came in and fed also. Saturday morning we had rain, it started about 3:00 am and never let up until around 4pm. The morning I saw 6 deer all feeding as I drove in and hunting from a shooting house I saw zip. Two buddies saw a couple deer apiece and no shots, one doe hunting and the other buck hunting.

Saturday afternoon the fog from rain with snow was so thick you couldn't see over 50 yards. Walking in to a stand I saw a huge buck at about 50 yards and two does already in the clover field. All run and no more deer sighted for the evening.

Saturday morning before I could get to my stand(after daylight) I hear a shot, my buddy text me later saying he shot at a big buck but thinks he missed. Around 8:45 a buck chases a doe and fawn to me, I shoot the doe and she runs over the hill and stops. I get another text, "found my buck he is in the bottom!" As I get set to reply I see the buck come thru and run my doe off! I tell buddy I need to look for doe and hit before I can help, I find blood and walk out to help recover the buck.

After a 400 yard drag of the buck we go back to look for my doe, very little blood then we lose it. Convinced I had only nicked her we start to leave when my son finds a single drop of blood. A few minutes later we find her under a fallen tree. Another uphill drag and our day is done. Good weekend hunt under lass than ideal conditions.

Hunting this time of year can be feast or famine, the deer have to be up and feeding for longer periods of time. Bucks are feeding AND still looking for does. Hunt where you have not pressured them earlier, they know where they feel safe TODAY. The buck taken Sunday was my friends personal best, I took my best typical ever on the last day of muzzy season(Dec23). I guess the old saying "never give up" applies.
