Great season, but after hearing others locally my season might have been pure luck. My girls and I did not get to hunt much due to life getting in the way. but we maximized the hunts we had. I'd say each of us hunted 5 times, maybe 6, I didn't keep track, all before gun opened. I shot a decent buck with my bow, my oldest killed a decent doe with her bow, and my youngest killed a decent buck with her xbow. In every hunt of mine I had deer at 20 yards or less. My kids both saw deer on at least half of their hunts.
In the end, 3 deer in the freezer, all before gun season. We decided that was plenty and have not been out since. I did take a friends boy out on the gun opener and got him a great buck. But beyond that, we have let our grounds sit in refuge to give what seems to be a depleted deer herd some solitude and safety from the gun pressure.
All in all a great year for my daughters and I ... even if luck played a roll.

Wife was done before gun season and I was done after opening day. We left our farm in White County sit without any hunting on it, during gun season, to give the deer a place to escape the other chaos. We have water and a cut corn field right next to the woods so the deer have all they need although the acreage is only 100 acres. The CO who lives on the next road to the west is watching the property for trespassers. Got a call this afternoon from a neighbor who said the deer were stacked in the south woodlot and the road in front of the farm was like a well traveled highway in the late afternoons when the deer were hitting the cut corn. We won't hunt the property any further this year.

Thanks for the offer 10point. Heck, on the southside of Lafayette there are a lot of deer.

Tough Tough season and I am fine with that BUT really hard on the youngin' who hasn't gotten a deer yet. Will try late loader season a few times and see what happens. I have killed 3 does and 2 of those were not on properties we hunt.
No chances at a good buck yet. Passed up some dinks.

It's been a stinker. Falling in love with a woman has really thrown me off my game...

Killed a doe and a yearling early. This is unusual for me as I usually don't start killing does till late, and normally would not kill a yearling at all. However my wife is an unemployed full time student at IU, and our freezer was empty, just couldn't chance it.....My daughter also killed a doe on Monday of the second week. Since then She let a yearling walk and got busted by the doe following it. I also let 2 does walk on Saturday. The wife and daughter seen what they called a "monster" on opening day from a buddy stand but he was better than 200yds. out, so they let him go. I also seen 3 does from that same stand, but they were about 500 yds.....That's all folks. Better luck next week.
SHHH.... Be vewy vewy quiet,I'm hunting WABBITS

For being a whacked season, I'm done.....2 does/2 nice bucks...but the bucks were only because of the Dunes Park hunt(157" 182lb 10pt) and a special draw hunt(185lb 120" 8pt)......as for the private, it purely stunk.....limited time 'cause of the death of my friend/landowner and the Enbridge pipeline coming thru and doing all but destroying the main crp/bedding area....after 17 years of leasing the place, I dont know if I'll be back on it next season.... so the tags are filled(1 gun kill and 3 bow kills), 2 nice bucks are down, but due to the possible loss of my beloved private land, it seems like a sucky season......It just feels weird that I'm done so early .....
