(I'm a rookie with not much mentoring) Is it unbecoming of a Deer Hunter to sip pipping hot coffee from an enclosed cup while sitting in a Ground Blind? Will such conduct "Ward Off" Deer? Please respond.

Um, I don't care. I love coffee ? smile One of the pure joys of life is a hot thermos of coffee, sitting in he woods, hunting deer and watching the sun come up.

If they are smelling my coffee, they are smelling me.

But, if you make noise or move a lot, it could alert deer. I generally give a really good look around with my binocs before I crack open the thermos. Binoculars, focused for different distances help you peer through brush and notice deer a lot sooner and usually before they notice you.

You would probably be surprised by the number of hunters who smoke, drink coffe, pass gas, and urinate on stand and still take deer.
Ps I don't do 2 of the 5.
Favorable wind direction and the rut covers a multitude of sins.

Heck I've peed off my buddy's stand and a few minutes later had a deer walk right through it... People sometimes make a big deal out of pee but folks deer pee too... I will pee in a scrape without hesitation because a deer doesn't know what put it there... It thinks it was another deer...I've read stories of guys peeing on scrapes and bucks go nuts and pee in it again...

Urine is urine regardless of who or what put it there... Though I have heard coffee and soda will put off an odor on human urine...

Golden smacks cereal also makes your pee stink! Ate some of my sons the other morning and noticed it later that afternoon. Was freaky!! Smelled just like the cereal.

Last year I walked into my tree stand with a mug of coffee in my hand, set my coffee down to hook up my haul up rope to my gun & pack, climbed into my stand, got everything set for the sun to come up. Just about time the sun started coming up I saw a small doe coming straight to my stand & I remembered my mug of coffee sitting on the ground. That doe came in sniffing the air right to my mug of coffee, she tasted it then knocked it over & kept licking the ground. I use Hazelnut creamer & heavy on the sugar so she got a sweet caffeinated nut buzz that morning. LOL

If I didn't have coffee with me for them to smell...they would surely hear my head pounding!

As for peeing..during bow season I carry a bottle to pee in...during gun season not so much.

Yes you can harvest deer by doing all the above especially during gun season, however if you archery hunt and want deer consistently to come within 20-30yds scent control is important. It is also important depending on the areas hunted. Mature deer are very Leary of different smells, and may not spook but will walk around a given area and all you see is them at a distant . That's why using wind direction, up and down drafts are important when choosing hunting locations.

While in my stand I once had a full cup of coffee in my hand when I should have had my gun. In the process of tucking the cup away any getting the gun up I lost out at an opportunity. I was kicking myself for letting that one get away. Now I carry a 5hr energy shot with me.
