I have my proper deer tag to hunt. I would like to take my grandson with me deer hunting at least once this season. He would not have a gun. He would just sit in the ground blind with me to observe and learn, but would not touch a firearm. My grandson is in the first grade and we will be on a private farm. Would a scenario such as this be in any violation of Indiana Laws, rules and regulations? I would have the "little shaver" wearing a hunter orange vest and hat. Please respond.

Nope... No such law saying he can't go along and watch...

sounds perfectly fine and like a great time.

My kids have done that with me. As long as they are not hunting themselves, no license is needed.

The hunter orange is a very good idea.

I've had the same question for years and believe like the above have stated that you should be fine.......on the other hand if I take an adult with me such as my fiancé I get a standard hunting license for them just to be safe and at least some of the money spent goes towards hunting whether it be state land, conservation officers pay etc.

As long as they are not hunting you DO NOT need a license to watch and observe...

I would like to add as well for you to look into the new(er) Apprentice license. In future years/when ready, you can buy the apprentice license for him and have him legally pull the trigger. It is a simple solution for getting youngsters out in the field prior to them taking hunters ed or prior to them going hunting on their own.
