The story sounds off to me. This was not a young deer, and a trophy by any states standards. If the farmer took it as he said, then one would think he would have it mounted. I find it hard to believe that he has equipment to plant/harvest fields, but doesn't have the equipment to get it out of the ravine? That being said, the laws are so incongruent. If he found it the following spring and it had died from EHD or old age, probably no questions asked. As usual, this is about money. Iowa does have to protect the "mystique" just like SD does with pheasant.

Charges weren't really dropped...he won on appeal for the possession because of a statute of limitations issue. Other convictions for aiding and abetting have stood. The deer was killed illegally. State keeps it.

Only thing troubling to me is that there are screenshot pictures of texts sent claiming they shot it? If they have those...they are toast. In my opinion. People need to learn anything sent via the web/cell phone can and will be traced back to you.

Antlers NEVER meant that much to me....ever. If the animal was indeed suffering..if legal..put it down, then call the C.O.s. If not legal...call the C.O.s and let them do it. End of story.. cool This story smells.....
