Visible chasing before daylight in field!
After daylite a small buck came sniffing chase trail from earlier.
My partner dropped a doe at 730m I'm buck only hunting, and packed for all day! GOOD SAFE LUCK ALL!

The wind just changed direction on me. It's pretty swirly.

We'll see what happens.

Been a very slow movement day so far. 2 button bucks, no doe in sight. Wind is favorable but not the best. Very little shooting around where I am at. Almost like there locked up!

I heard more shots before 9am than I've heard in over 20 years. Sounded like a war. Went completely dead around 9:30 but before that... WOW. I saw nothing. My son missed a decent 8 pointer at 40 yards. I sent him this text: #buckfever

Back in the stand. Yet to see any deer. This will be the first time I haven't seen deer while hunting this year. Very few shots this morning, under 10

I been tied up with work all week long, so yesterday just after sunset I got my stand to the woods & in the tree. Before I walked out I put up two scent wicks soaked in Wildlife Research's Golden Estrus scent, then dumped the rest of the bottle under my stand. I got to my stand about 45 min. before sun up this morning, I heard something moving through the leaves, but was too busy getting into my stand. Sunrise was at 6:32am & at 6:40 this buck came in at a dead run straight to my stand up wind, I must have moved because he took off to about 50yds away & started to circle around. As he was circling he crossed my shooting lane about 75yds out sniffing the air, that's when I let his air out. One shot & my hunt was over, that was about the shortest hunt I have ever been on. Here's my prize 8 pointer it's not big but it was some of the easiest hunting I have ever done.

Parker, I know how you feel. We got shined off by three different hunters and weren't running late at all. They all came in from private ground. First shot heard about 7:45 which is really late for public if you know what I mean. Saw more hunters than deer. Did hear a wild ricochet go through the tree tops over our heads. Gotta love public land opener.

Not much deer movement down in Jefferson county. Way to warm and windy.

Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.

Hunted all day Saturday and today. Havent seen a deer yet. Seems each year HNF gets harder and harder to hunt. Got the whole week off, so hopefully something will happen. The weather looks better for tomorrow.

SATURDAY Morn. I saw no deer, and I heard only one shot that was close to me. Sat. Eve. I saw no deer. But I did hear dualing shotguns fire 20 or more shots a piece, from a couple of idiots lined up along one of my property lines. One guy would empty and 2-5 min. later the other guy would empty, and then the first guy,etc... for about 20 min between 5 and 5:30.
SUNDAY I laid on the couch.
MONDAY I hunted the evening, I saw two does in a field @ 300yrds.... going the other way, right before dark.

That is because all the private ground gets leased up now where 10 guys used to be able to hunt now 2 hunt that land which makes everyone else have to hunt HNF. Between the EHD, Non Antlered permits, Coyotes and bobcats, the deer numbers are starting to take its toll. I know I keep griping about the deer numbers in my hunting areas but i have hunted over 50 times this year. Total deer seen 15.

Parker I am with ya. I have hunted fairly hard this year and worked to put myself in the best position possible and I am not seeing the deer. I have reworked my scent control, work hard on setting up for the right wind direction, and hunted new opportunities like park hunts and Big Oaks and I am not seeing hardly any deer. I am working patience now and still sitting as much as I can. Good Luck, keep your head up a deer might just walk by!

BigBuckD,
Thanks for the encouragement. Seems like the harder you think about things the worst it gets. My brother can climb a light pole in the walmart parking lot and shoot a deer. I will keep chipping away. You do the same.

Hunted all day again in HNF. Still havent even seen a doe. Years past would see 5 to 6 deer a day. Don't even see any driving in or my way home. I was thinking full moon, and winds have them tucked away in the clearcuts. Hunted around clearcuts today in my portable and only saw turkeys and squirrels. Parker i think your right, between the doe permits and blue tongue the numbers are way down. In years past it sounded like a firing range on opening day. This year heard very few shots. Not giving up, but it sure makes a long day after hunting several days from daylight to dark and can't even get a glimpse of a deer. Thats eating my lunch in my stand and walking out at dark.I would be happy to hear one snort at me at this point in time. Tomorrow is a new day. Will see what happens.

Knight50,
I feel your pain. I hunted this morning and yep did not see a deer. I got out of my stand and decided to walk around a bit. I never seen the first fresh track nor an old track. You would think a guy would jump one up on the way in or out when walking to your stand, but nope. I am still gonna chip away and Lord knows I am trying.

I didn't see a deer Sunday.... and nobody had any luck

I didn't see a deer Monday... other cousin killed a 2.5 yr old 8pt... and another buddy killed a small doe that he found the next morning

Went out to Crawford Co. this morning, and hunted my oldest property. (Permission the longest). Sweetening the sentiment of the hunt, is the fact that I am hunting in a stand I built for my deceased brother. (We still call it "Bill's Stand")... About 8:30, in comes this yearling. Not far behind... a doe. I wait for a shot at the bigger deer, and to see if there are more deer (like a buck) with them....No buck, and no more does, so I wait for a good shot at the biggest deer. Eventually she gives it up, and I drop her in her tracks. Curious but not alarmed by the shot, is the yearling...He looks around, and mills around, but never spooks, while I re-load.... About the time the bullet stops on top of the powder, he starts up the hill towards where he last saw the other deer, and turned broadside....This one ran about 40 yards...

I finally seen 2 dinker bucks this morning. The first one had 3 pts on one side and a spike on the other. The other one only had one antler and had 2 pts on it. I let them walk.....
