Hey guys, now that is that time of year in Indiana, it is obviouisly a good time to rattle and or grunt. When you are blind calling, what types of sequences do you use? I have used calls, read about them, seen them on TV, but I can't say I have ever had success. I typically see more deer sitting still in my stand and being quiet. I have managed to bring a buck into range with a couple short grunts ONCE. I have also rattled and had a buck come through about 20 minutes later. (could have been a coinciedence)When you rattle, how long and how often do you do so. Also, when you grunt, is it typically shorter grunts or longer ones. How often do you do so?
Thanks!

I do several shorts grunts followed by 1 or 2 long grunts and when I rattle its usually for 30 to 45 seconds

I have rattled one buck in, grunted one buck in.

In 20 years of deer hunting.

I have been hunting 30 years and NEVER have rattled a buck in. ONCE I grunted at an small 8pt and he actually came in and I let him walk. I don't think rattling and grunting work in high pressure areas such as HNF. Just my thoughts. I would rather stay quiet.

Never had much luck blind calling to bucks but I have fawn bleated does in blind. I usually do it right before I leave for a morning. Just a sequence of plaintive fawn bleats will sometimes get them in.

Guess Ive been lucky with rattling. Usually rattle a couple bucks in each year. 99% of the time they will be running straight in to you before you're done with your rattling sequence. Nothing more exciting than that.

No pro at calling in deer but I do know there are a lot if factors deer attitude(if u can see him or not.) Type of call you use, etc.. . Last time out I called an 8 pt off a Doe with grunting and can call, he was just to small.I could see him obviously I have better luck calling in deer when I can see them cause you know they are close plus you can see how they react to it. This morning I have done same thing can and grunt call 4 or 5 times with no results. At 915 I thought what the heck what do I have to lose. Started grunting a few times then hit the rattle bag which is a big hard slap( like the first hit together) then some clanging of the tines then a couple pauses then end it with another loud slap then quick rattle and then couple grunts. Put the calls up and within a min here come a 6 pt. So blind calling can work. One other thing watch down wind cause that's where they are headed after you call to them.

I think I call in the buck I shot this past Saturday opening day. I shot the 8 pointer at 11:20 am. I heard a buck grunt twice in the morning on the next ridge that I could not see. Around 11:00 I tried fawn, doe and buck calls and from that direction he came from. I guess it worked.
