I was selected to hunt the 2013 Camp Atterbury Military Deer Hunt. My question is can I take a partner with me on this hunt? The paperwork doesn't mention it anywhere and they only sent one release form so I wasn't sure.

In years past past, yes you can. They require hunter ed.

Applicants do not have to enter their hunting partner’s information online and do not choose dates (dates are randomly assigned). Successful applicants are allowed to bring one hunting partner.

I was able to get in touch with the HuntMaster at Camp Atterbury today and found out you can NOT bring a partner when selected for the Military Hunt. If you are selected for the state hunt you CAN take a partner. I was selected for the Military hunt via a sponsor.

Are you able to purchase a miliatry refuge tag for a buck if you have already used your buck tag for the year for the atterbury hunt?

Yes you can use the military refuge license if you have already used your state tag.

Antiwheeze, he was selected through the military draw and not the state draw. Things are a little bit different for each draw.

That is good to know. The guy I am taking as my partner has killed his buck for the year. I have never hunted out there, and he has been out there for years, so I am hoping he can help me out as to taking me to a spot or something as you cant scout before hand. Anyone have any tips?

Find yourself a spot that looks good, then be patient. Ive killed 3-4 very nice bucks on draw hunts just by sitting still and let other hunters moving the deer to me. h.h.

I will second this, find a good funnel. Some thick cover, a saddle, a thicket where several ridges drop down.

Sit and wait, let the foot soldiers run deer to you. I have seen some monsters at atterbury. Good luck.

A friend found this one a few years back.

Should I just wait until first light to find a spot then?I have never been out there in the past. I kind of figured the other hunters would be wondering around a lot, shooting, dragging, walking in and out, etc. I would rather not be the guy bumping the deer to the others though.

It is a big place back there. The last two times we hunted it by the time we left the briefing and got to our area it was already nearing daylight. It's a rat race getting out of there after the briefing.

I'll be at the hunt also. Does anyone have a map of the military side? Do the areas hunted change from year to year? Thanks for any help.
