Any comment or background on 1611? Looks like a big change and six million dollars of budget shifted from law enforcement to the parks department. I always heard CO'S had more authority than any leo but looks to be changing? Any additional info or am I reading the bill correctly? Thanks.

With as many issues there appears to be in the fields, streams and woods. It would seem that the state park fees should raised if they need money and the CO money left alone.

Under the bill, as introduced, the six million dollars would go to capital improvements at Brookville Reservoir and Whitewater Memorial State Park. If I am looking at the district map correctly, I believe these facilities are in the district of the bill's author.

May all our hunts be safe, enjoyable, and deeply appreciated.

It says they will not be able to stop vehicles for moving or on moving violations state wide. Only if they witness a felony can they make an arrest if not on state property.....just trying to understand the logic. Big move just to fund Brookville and Whitewater. Interesting mix of local cronyism, more alcohol and less law enforcement.

Co's have always had more powers of arrest than Staties.....Same as Staties and then powers of Fish and Wildlife enforcement....Why the change ?? ....They are LAW ENFORCEMENT, if they see some one acting stupid driving, no matter where, they should be able to stop and ticket them.....maybe the reasoning is to have them concentrate more on the F&W issues ? I say leave them alone...

Many of these bills won't even get a hearing but it's difficult to predict which ones need attention until they show up in the agenda.

I have no idea what prompted HB1574.

HB1611 looks more like a legislator trying to swipe funds for his/her district than anything else. Plus someone they knew might have gotten a ticket once. I'm told the DNR opposes this bill.

On 1611 the DNR had nothing to do with it. It basically is a self interest bill by the legislator from the district that would get the 6 million. A bad bill in my opinion

I'm pretty sure he is from Brookville... So yes it would fall in his district...

HB 1574 just changes the language of IC 35-47-5-8. It only shows one section (section 8) without the context of the rest of the law.
So, if you're reading all of IC 35-47-5, when you get to IC 35-47-5-10 regarding the applicability of statutes relating to machine guns it indicates the provisions of section 8 or 9 do not apply to eight listed exceptions which include those lawfully possessing them under United States statutes.
In short, if you're legal by ATF standards (i.e. United States statutes) then you're legal with the state.
