Yep Jack, time to move on. If you look at a lot of different bills introduced this year it is amazing where things are headed. Our waterways are going to be a greater risk of pollution and if you live in the country and a farming interest decides to do something that could severely reduce the value of your land or house, then it appears that they will be allowed to do so without any damages and such. I'm all for smaller government but there are a lot of things getting taken way to far in my opinion.

I'll never understand why they schedule the House and Senate Natural Resources meetings at the same time 3 floors apart?

"Provides that hunters on hunting preserves are not required to have a hunting license and are not subject to bag limits" Why would anyone let this happen??? Wouldn't this be a loss on income???

Everything, literally everything, in the Indiana legislature is about letting any type of business do anything it wants in any manner it wants. Well, at least it's pretty much that way. I believe you will see a huge turn in Indiana politics in the next few years and eventually this state will be ran by the democratic party. Either party can take it "too far" and I'm afraid the party in power is setting itself up for big problems in the future. I'm pretty sure that some legislators are thinking these ventures will create jobs which will create a greater economic benefit then the cost of a deer license. Unfortunately, when crap eventually happens, and it will, it will be the sportsmens license dollars that will likely have to be used to clean things up. What you are seeing here is a good example of the deer management situation. The DNR will have to do what it's told, regardless of what it believes best be done.

Just received this from the Indiana Wildlife Federation: The Senate Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee chaired by Sen. Carlin Yoder will hear SB404 Hunting Preserves Monday, 10am at the State House Room 431. It is our understanding that amendments have been discussed and may be introduced in the committee meeting. We are not able to get a copy of the amendments before the committee. The IN Wildlife Federation, along with the vast majority of conservation organizations in Indiana, oppose high fence/canned hunting. These operations threaten the wild deer herd and are not fair chase. Please go to the link below to see the agenda and link to the bill language. Also note the committee members and call your senator. http://iga.in.gov/legislative/2014/committees/agriculture_and_natural_resources_3100 Please attend and express your opinion to the committee face to face. IWF has a petition posted on our website….please pass the link along to your membership and friends and ask them to sign in opposition to canned hunting in Indiana. http://www.change.org/petitions/ban-canned-hunting-in-indiana Other bills on the agenda of importance are: SJR9 Constitutional Right to Hunt, Fish, Harvest Game. IWF supports this now that the language on farming has been taken out and there is a statement of “subject to the laws prescribed by the General Assembly and rules prescribed…” SB361 Dog training in game breeder enclosures. IWF opposes this as written because it approves coyotes, fox, other larger mammals. Traditional training on birds and rabbits is not the concern. Did you ever consider they plan the meetings so concerned citizens can't attend both? Government at its' best....... you schedule a meeting for Monday on Friday, and then wonder why people don't attend. Elected officials are not connected to the electorate, nor do they want to be.

Hate to say it, but feels like a waste of time. This struggle has been going on for many years now. Geez, how many years have passed since the CACCC? Lost count of how many such bills we have managed to stave off...but the result has never been clear victory...just another delay until next year.
Doesn't matter how many legislative battles we have won, the opposition only needs one victory to win the war. Much like recent crossbow liberalization, this issue hasn't felt like a matter of "if", but instead a matter of "when" for quite some time.
Money talks, suckers walk.
That said, made the calls and signed the petition....again. If we're going down, might as well go down swinging.

I have been to a few other "hunting" sites...Archerytalk for example and the ambivalence and hatred to those who bring up the suggestion to stop this high fence crap is simply amazing....no wonder it has a chance of passing...there is no normal intelligent argument that can be made to sway those that say they dont support it but they will not say no to it....simply amazing....there are some real dunces out there....

I think a lot of it Jeff is an example of how conservation and "wild" is lost in the face of the "kill". Today's sense of being able to do whatever one wishes to do has pretty much taken over. I believe there is a huge disrespect and careless attitude by many who take to the woods to hunt. When you read the trapping site here and guys talk about releasing fox because they don't have many in their area, it speaks to a different mentality then what I believe is the general attitude of sportsmen in the field.

Its the same as passing on Does or young bucks too...I see it on some of the TV shows and this is where some now learn to "hunt" .... Ethics and morality has been tossed under the bus .... like I have said in the past...it is the me me me mine mine mine mentality, a selfishness that that will lead to the down fall of hunting.....they cant see the woodlot for the tree's..... I no longer hunt to kill, I kill to have hunted(or something like that)....seems Ive read that someplace before ;0) .....

Largely agree Jeff. TV shows, internet, even record books have all helped lead to much of this in my opinion. But, then also, a general lessening of respect and value of the wildlife being taught by the elders is also an issue in my opinion. This then leads to the teaching by the TV shows, internet and such.

IMHO, you can lay a lot of this "attitude" right @ the feet of trophy hunting.....It has consumed whitetail hunters, hunting shows, and magazines for years.....like a cancer.
It has lead to more division between hunters than I ever thought was possible. I've seen families and friends split apart over how, where, when and with what deer should be hunted. It's lead many to try and protect "their bucks" @ all costs until they are large enough to become a "trophy" worthy of someone's envy and/or cash. And @ the same time, it has lead many to feel that does are really not worth "hunting" but are nothing more than pests that need to be exterminated.
And all of this has lead us to this point....Where people are more than willing to write a check and "hunt" for a big buck in these type of places. The bigger the check, the bigger the buck, and the more they can brag about it.....
So am I the least bit surprised that this might pass? Nope....I'm just surprised it's taken this long to get this close....

The shooting pens are definitely all about the trophy....but there is no hunting involved.
Big difference between the guy that pursues big mature whitetail bucks because they are the most elusive creature in the woods....versus a guy that lays down big money for a guaranteed farm raised freak.

Completely different obsessions.
I am obsessed by mature wild whitetail bucks.
What happens in those put and take shooting pens turns my stomach.

Or are you saying no high fence, anywhere? And you can explain the difference between what you call your "obsession" vs canned hunting all you wish. I understand your point....and I agree. But you surely realize that these places wouldn't exist if it weren't for the billion + dollar industry that trophy buck hunting has become.
