I am booking a 7 day fishing trip to Rainy Lake for next year. Since I have never personally fished there I thought I would post this and ask if any of you have ever fished that lake and had any advice?

I believe we will go either in late May or early June. I really don't want to go in July or August when its hot.

Any pointers or advice for fishing that lake?

It won't be that hot later in the summer. I can be down right chilly some times. If its your first time there I'd highly recommend that you hire a guide for at least a half a day. Pay attention and then strike put on your own. You will love that place. Great fun!

Should be some good fishing. The weather is probably going to be chilly. Just looking at the averages will tell you what to kind of expect.

Are you going after bass or walleye? I'm not even sure what the seasons are now. Haven't been north for about 5 years.

We will probably target walleye mostly but it will be a 7 day trip so I will most likely try my luck with smallmouth, walleye, pike and crappie throughout the week.

The fishing reports/forums and a good map will probably be enough to put you on fish. You will probably catch pike and smallmouth while walleye fishing.

A good, accurate map or GPS is a must. Rocks in northern lakes have a way of coming out of nowhere and grabbing a lower unit.
