Fork in a tree. Steps up to the fork. Two main beams across the fork. Plywood seat nailed on top. LoL

I have several of stands like that, all made of treated lumber so they don't rot. Of course they are all on private property and in trees of little or notimber value.

30 years ago that was how I made a tree stand. They use to sell a seat that was adjustable length to set in a tree fork, it snapped locked into place. Was no such thing as climbers or ladder stands unless you built them yourself. h.h.

There are still wooden ladder stands on our farm, of course not used anymore, that steps have fallen off of and are in serious decay. My dad and brother hoisted a wooden cedar pallet in a tree fork, a three prong tree trunk, years ago that you could have camped out on. The tree feel down but the pallet is still in decent shape on the ground.

I still use a wooden ladder stand that I built out of treated lumber. Its 20 foot tall and I put a swivel boat seat on top. I built it with deck screws and water proof adhesive. It very heavy and took 3 of us to set it in place. h.h.

I used a 2X12 before, cut a notch in each end and put in a fork. Stomp it down and stand on it. Younger days, before I needed a seat.

I have hunted out of lots of those types of homemade stands. I used to build them out of old 2x4's and a cordless drill with a pocket full of 3.5 inch wood screws.

I walk past an old one about 12 feet up a big old mulberry tree on one farm I hunt now.

Years ago, I hunted by the Indianapolis airport out of an old 10 foot ladder stand I made out of an aluminum extension ladder and some old hardwood flooring.

Oh those were the days. Standing on a 2x4. Never even thinking of safety harness. If you could find the right fork on a crossing trail the lumber and spray paint came out. Or building 723 lb stands "seemed like" drivin out to field seein velvets. And 3 of us lugging that ladder stand into woods. There were a few Baker climbers back then. Now don't leave without safety belt. Carry super light stand. Lightening fast bow. Lighted tacks to get into darkness. Makes me think what the ****. Oh well still great!

My first deer was killed out of a forked tree with a piece of plywood that I sat on. I was probably 13
