How far should my trap be to a fox den? What kind of trap would be the best trap for it? Would coyote urine work and fox gland lure with coyote and fox bait that are all from Hoosier trapper supply.

I can't tell you how far away it should be, but I would do a hay set for fox. Get a 1.5 foothold trap, and I prefer a rubber jaw trap or offset just because I have cats and dogs around my house, but get one of those and a 12" to 24" re-bar stake or a disposable stake and set the trap like you would do a dirt hole set. Use a fox bait or a coyote and fox bait, red fox gland lure or just fox gland lure, and red fox urine. After you have the set done, take some hay and put it around the front of the set. Foxes will think there are mice and other little creatures they can eat in the hay and also the urine and lure will attract them there. They hay and bait is just for curiosity and so the fox will stay there messing around with it, and then before you know it, one will screw up and you will have a fox in your pocket wink

Toss some corn under that bale. It will draw mice in which pulls in the canines. Also, fox will climb on every pile , bale etc to look around. The bale by itself will draw them. Best fox set I have used is the bean chaff pile set after soybeans are picked.

I would set right outside it. I like a #2 Bridger dogless offset for fox, #3 Bridge dogless for coyotes.

I would use fox gland lure, fox urine. Nothing is scared of fox but you might scare the fox with coyote urine.

Hay set and a couple dirt hole sets and you are in business!

The only thing I have is a duke coil spring #2 and I have it about a 15-20 inches away from the den and I covered it with nice soft dirt and some bean chaff because it is right where the combine turned and there was already bean dust there

But if you have coyote urine around the set Daniel, like 76 Chevy said, you could scare away the fox.

You are NOT going to scare a fox away with coyote urine. I have caught plenty of red fox in "coyote" sets with coyote urine. If you pay attention to a lot of the videos, you see that. Ever watch Charlie's videos and see how many grey fox he catches using coyote urine?? Its all canine……..and most urines come from penned animals fed a diet of meal, and "dog food". Not even close to their natural diet. Both coyotes and foxes that's been around the block a few years know the difference, and can/will shy from it. That would be the likely reason they would shy away from it. So, unless you spend the extra money for GOOD urine, its all basically the same.

Yeah, I hear you Yaz. I caught a red fox last year using fox gland lure and coyote urine. It was a dirthole set.

Although way too much coyote urine might fright the fox. I could see that happening.

Urine is urine... Drinking a bunch of coffee might put off an odor, but other than that, there is no difference...
