over 25years in the woods and I have yet to ever kill a coyote last year I started trapping them but to no avail finally last night on my second night with traps in the ground I connected on my first ever.and before everyone freaks out cause the furs not prime and I'm trapping don't worry I'm not selling it I'm getting it and to keep for myself. Congrats!! That gives another newbie like me some hope!! laugh What kind of set was it? I noticed he's caught by a rear leg. As far as the fur goes, I got an email from Charlie at HTS today that said they have seen some coyotes turned in that are "starting to look fairly good, and will continue to prime over the next few weeks". Anyhow, way to go!

"Ah grasshopper, the student becomes the master."

Nice catch! Whether you keep fur or not is up to the trapper. I only keep about 1/4 of what I catch because Im not trapping for fur. My trapping/snaring is all about varmint control on my property. Im starting to get a good population of turkeys and I want to catch all the egg/fawn eating varmints I can. Good luck the rest of the season. h.h.

Thanks guys, corn it was a regular ol dirt hole with a thing of Fox tail as the backing. Here is the day before when I checked it. [Linked Image]
I think it may have been a deer but not sure I think it could of been a coyote "marking the weeds" and scratched when he was done.
Yaz that does sound like a good plan I spent a while cleaning him up this afternoon

Looks like a male Nick. Was it? On the set pulled out of its bed. Looks like you may have had a couple different critters on it. Bet a coyote exposed the trap, and marked it. Then the coons found it and pulled it out of the bed. Not saying it don't happen but, Coyotes don't often pull a trap out of its bed. Coons are notorious for that. They like to fiddle around in the soft dirt. Hope you have another one in the morning!!!!

The one I caught was a young female or I guess that's what I thought it was. But I agree it kind of looked like one speed then scratched the ground before it left. Yea I wouldn't know what to do with myself lol
