Shot a decent 9 point yesterday and he dropped in the middle of a cut bean field, Gutted him there and went back and buried 3 #2's around the gut pile hoping to catch a coyote. Went back after work and checked them and had a nasty turkey buzzard caught. I figured with my luck I'd catch 3 opossums but that would have been better. laugh He wasn't very happy and hissed at me the whole time I was getting him loose. He took off like a bullet when I got him out. Man them things are nasty.

I would love to see that! Great idea though gang setting a gut pile.

Correct me if I'm wrong and I may be and in no way am I meaning to call you out, but I thought you couldn't put leg traps out around gut or bait piles in sight. Reason being so you didn't catch birds of prey by mistake. Like I said I may be wrong just getting into trapping so someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I just looked in the Hunting/Trapping guide and don't see anything that says you can't. However, that is a great point trad, that I hadn't thought of. Maybe 76, HH or Yaz knows something more??

As far as I know there is no laws against it. This time of year food is so easily available they won't pay much attention to gut piles and such. But once the snow hits and gets beyond cold this could be very effective. The key is to set the traps back off the pile. These keeps you from catching birds of prey

Gut piles are not illegal for any kind of trapping or killing of any varmints or fur baring animals that I know of. If you add any kind of poison to the pile that would be illegal.

I make a gut pile with deer parts each year to shoot yotes. I sit up hill, 150 yards from the pile h.h.

BINGO! Billy wins the prize today! laugh

No laws against it. Not a good idea though. Last gut pile I had in an open field was completely gone before the end of the day. All due to the birds. Crows were first, followed by red tail hawks, then the buzzards. Nothing left but blood stained dirt by dark.

Once it is cleaned up, it will draw in coyotes. The best bet is a
scent post set 30' feet or so on the UP WIND side of the pile.

No vomit but he was sure hissing at me. They were Bridger off sets so it didn't even hurt his leg just had him trapped. Guess I won't do that again.
